It really depends on what type of tea you are making. You should use hot water, but not boiling. With most teas, letting it steep longer then 4-5 minutes will make it bitter. Don't squeeze the tea bag, that will also make it bitter. Using a French press with loose leaf tea works really well also. If you like your tea sweetened I recommend using honey, it tastes better than sugar and has antioxidants in it.

If you like it strong but not as strong as two tea bags, put one tea bag in a cup of boiling water the place a saucer one top of the cup (this is called steeping) let it set for 30 min. & drink. Steeping allows the hot water to draw out the finer flavours of the tea.

The British make the best cup of tea. I prefer to use Tetley tea. First of all the water has to be boiling.... not hot, BOILING. Warm the teapot and discard that water. Add 1 teabag per person and bring kettle back up to the boil. The moment it has boiled pour it still bubbling into the warmed teapot, give it a stir and allow to stand for approx 3 mins. The longer it stands the stronger it will be. Add milk and if you have to, sugar to taste.

Use fresh tea. Make sure the water is piping hot. Give the tea a chance to steep before adding cream.

DO NOT SQUEEZE the tea bag after brewing. Just take it out, let it drip a bit, then discard. You will have the smoothest cup of tea you've ever had. (Squeezing releases tannins, which can make tea bitter or "dry.")

first flush darjeeling tea leaves steeped in boiling hot water for 4 minutes. transfer tea into a separate preheated pot to prevent over steeping and bitter tannins from masking the aroma of the floral bouquet that is darjeeling. pour into bone china cup and add cream and sugar to taste.

I like Lipton tea for a cup of hot tea. Sweeten it with some splenda and you are good to go.
