I bought a four-pack last night for over $5.00 to use in a recipe that only asked for 1 teaspoon. I probably won't use it for months. Is freezing it ok and how long does it last that way?

Yes! According to the U.S. Agricultural Marketing Service, it is okay to freeze butter in its original packaging, and it will maintain it's store-bought quality for two months. According to the Publix website, butter can be kept for up to four months at 20 to 30°F (–6.6 to –1.1°C). At –10°F (–23.3° ), it can be kept for up to a year. To freeze it, place the packaged or wrapped butter in a plastic freezer bag, or wrap it in heavy foil.

Yes it is a ok to freeze real butter. Especially salted butter. I wouldn't recommend freezing margarine (or USING margarine for that matter). But butter freezes well. It doesn't need a freezer bag...just freeze it in the Land O' Lakes box. I sometimes freeze individual quarters in their wax paper wrapping too, without any other added protection. Works fine for long periods.

I bought some Land O Lakes butter today, 01/25/15, It has a use by date on the package of 06/04/15. Why freeze it. If you keep it refrigerated you have 4 months to use it.

Absolutedly. I always buy butter on sale and freeze it right in the original box. I only take one on stick at a time. In fact the US Dept. of Agriculture recommends freezing butter you aren't planning to use withing 2 - 3 days.

yes you can freeze butter, I do it all the time. The only problem I sometimes have, is when I'm ready to use it. It's so hard you can't just scrape some off, you have to like cut a piece off. But it's still fresh ans good.

It is just fine to freeze it. I do it all the time. It will last a long time but you can always take some extra precaution from it tasting freezer burn and that is to simply but the box into a freezer bag!!

yeah its fine, it should last for a long time. I always freeze it, just make sure that if you're going to use it you take it out and put in the refrigerator before-hand so it has a chance to thaw out. You can also put it in the microwave for a few seconds to thaw it, but don't put it in for over 15 seconds! (unless it's still frozen)

I don't see that freezing butter would hurt anything. Give it a try.
