The gospel of Judas gives us an alternative story of Jesus' betrayal. In it, Judas is asked by Jesus to "free Him of his clothes" (or something like that) which essentially means to free him from his physical body.
Don't you traditional Christians believe Jesus died for our salvation? So, therefore, his death was necessary. Why is it so far-fetched to believe that Judas was one of the apostles that truly understood Jesus' message about the spiritual vs. the physical? Judas needed to "betray" Jesus in order to give Jesus the opportunity to die in the way that he did & provide salvation for the world. Why don't people accept this? Why so threatened by it? How do we know what happened? All we have to go on is the Bible, which has been altered, edited, translated, and put together by man, by corrupt church officials? Any thoughts?

God didn't write the Bible. Therefore, how could God have "put it in". Look into Biblical history & research how the Bible came into being!

It's amusing how many of you claim to "know" what Jesus meant or what Jesus' message was. It has been corrupted & in order to get to the truth we have to consider all possibilities. Why is the Judas Gospel any less credible? It has been authenticated by carbon dating, dialect, & language. It must be considered!

In fact I am not Christians, but here are my thoughts about Jesus, Judas and so on - Jesus existed, but he was just normal person. May be he was kind of rebel who probably wanted to pronounce himself as a Jew king. He probably was very noble, brave and wise man ( but still just a man). Probably he was married to Magdalene and they had a child (I heard it was a boy named Baraba, born before Jesus died). Probably Jesus and the apostles were in a rebel movement. And It was proved that they were more than 80 gospels ( one of them is Judas' one) which emperor Constantine hide and forbidden and just use these four of them which suits him best. That's what I think. But personally I don't believe any god could exist, no matter if he 's named Jesus, Allah, Jehovah and so on.

I've always wondered about poor Judas, but this is an gnostic writing, and I don't believe Judas wrote it, or even contributed to it. An important historical find of course, but I wouldn't take any gnostic text very literally.
Personally, I think Judas figured that if Jesus got arrested, the angels would come down to defend Him, and rid Israel of the Romans. I don't think poor Judas had a clue that Jesus woud actually be crucified, and when he found that out, he couldn't live with the guilt, so he killed himself. I never thought Judas did it for the money, I think he was trying to force God's hand to get rid of the Romans, and maybe the pharasee's along with them. Then again, maybe Judas figured Jesus would use His own power to free Himself, and by doing that, convince the world that He was indeed, the son of God.

Its not accepted because its not what people have traditionally known and really I don't know anyone that is threatened by it. We honestly don't know if the Bible or the Gospel of Judas is "real". We don't have any proof, just faith. To be honest, it was in God's plan for Judas to betray Jesus and Jesus knew he was betrayed so I don't see why the Gospel of Judas couldn't hold some truth.

My question to you is, when did Judas write this so called gospel. He was a selfish and money hungry man who killed himself after he betrayed Jesus. I cannot imagine him writing this during his suicide or after.
It is amazing how these things are just popping up and people are quickly buying into them. If the church was truly hiding something, wouldn't they have found and destroyed this book a long time ago. I trust in the Lord and have faith in him and I know his word the bible is true, If you were to spend some time reading it as you did the gospel of Judas, you would not have asked this question.
The bible has only one perfect person and this was Jesus. The bible shows that all of us were born in sin, we make mistakes some very terrible, but God can forgive them all. Please read the bible before you read the fake gospels.

The Gospel of Judas depicts the world as the product of a lower, bloodthirsty deity, not the work of the higher, true God. Thus, it rejects the biblical picture of Creation and of Yahweh, the Creator, in favor of a radically different view of the cosmos and its origins.
These ideas come straight out of the biggest doctrinal challenge with which the early church had to contend--Gnosticisn, a diffused blending of ideas from Christian, Jewish, Greek, and Roman thought. The New Age movement in our times provides a rough comparison.
The Holy Scriptures, Old and New Testaments, are the written Word of God, given by divine inspiration through holy men of God who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. In this Word, God has committed to man the knowledge necessary for salvation. The Holy Scriptures are the infallible revelation of His will. They are the standard of character, the test of experience, the authoritative revealer of doctrines, and the trustworthy record of God's acts in history. (2 Peter 1:20, 21; 2 Tim. 3:16, 17; Ps. 119:105; Prov. 30:5, 6; Isa. 8:20; John 17:17; 1 Thess. 2:13; Heb. 4:12.)

When would Judas have wrote this "gospel"? By all accounts Iscariot commited suicide during the trial of Jesus.. Gnostic gospels were being written under false names very early in Christianity.. The Bible was put together using writings used from the very beginning of the movement. Most of the alternative Gospels were condemned as lies early on.

I don't believe that the texts attributed to Judas have been authenticated fully. I would rather believe texts which have been known to us as soon as a decade after Christ's death, rather than texts found in another land, attributed supposedly to Judas, found thousands of years later.
Judas was a necessary part of God's plan for the salvation of humanity. His betrayal was necessary to further God's plan and Jesus most likely knew that. God knew Judas' heart. We don't. Speculation about his role and his salvation gets us nothing.

This sounds like a hack of the Last Temptation of Christ. If what you were saying were true, Satan would not need to go inside of Judas, would he? Also, Jesus would not have said, "It would have been better for him had he not been born," right? Lastly, read Acts 1, and you'll see where Judas wound up (in Hell). If Judas did Jesus' work (as you claim), he would not have gone to Hell, right?

Gnostic gospels talk of whispered secrets to get to heaven.
Getting to heaven actually involves belief in God and living rightly.
