Nothing really what you need to decrease is the amount of calories in your daily food intake. Read the Nutrition Lables and control portion sizes. Any other fad diets like Atkins don't work because you'll eventually crave carbs and overindulge.

Nothing. If you cut it out, you'll want it more and your diet will fail. You should learn moderation. That means eat a little of everything, but don't go overboard!
Watch your fats, try to eat leaner meats and lower fat items. Eat plenty of fruits and veggies. Eat at least 3 servings a day of dairy, like yogurt and stuff.
If you want chocolate, try dark choc. Less sugar, so less cals.
Watch your carbs, try to eat more pure versions. Like stoneground breads (or Roman Meal is good), whole wheat pastas, etc.
Good luck

While it varies from person to person, cutting out sweets and wheats is generally a safe bet.
Refraining from eating after 8 o' clock in the evening helps, too.

Processed sugars is a good way to start. You'd be amazed on how much weight you'll lose just by doing that.

excess sugars, large portions... try baby carrots, string cheese, pretzels for snacks. Drink water, juice and skim milk rather than sodas... don't cut everything out of your diet... let yourself have one "guilty pleasure" every once in a while otherwise you will fail. Try to eat more fruits and vegetables. Lean foods like chicken breast.... good luck!

food beyond what you need to function. Exercise with smaller portions of food is an excellent way to lose weight.

Sugar, by far the easiest, you'd be surprised how much sugar you get each day.
And lower portion size.
