Without a doubt, the best is Alton Brown.

He not only teaches you how to cook dishes, but he explains the science behind it so you understand WHY you should or should not do certain things while cooking. I call him the Bill Nye of cooking. (If you don't know Bill Nye, the Science Guy - do a search. He's brilliant at teaching.)

Alton makes everything seem simple and explains how you can alter recipes to your liking. For example, he did a show on chocolate chip cookies and made them three different ways - chewy, crunchy, and cakey - so you could make the cookies that you like best.

Alton is my favorite because his show, Good Eats, is always entertaining and informative. He did one show on chocolate that had a Willy Wonka spin to it. It was so well done that people at a party actually stopped talking and watched the entire show - it was that interesting.

I've always been partial to Graham Kerr who used to be The Galloping Gourmet but, then got onto healthier cooking and has been since. He's just a classic and I adore his sense of humour. He always made the kitchen such a joyous and fun place to be. He has charm, charisma and a dryish but wicked sense of humour which just carries so nicely. I also like Rachel Ray and Emeril Lagasse and Elton Brown.

Although she has left us, my favorite TV chef of all time is Julia Childs. She was witty with her comments, yet clever and patient in her ways. She showed us how to take traditional French cooking and make it simple enough so that we could make it in our own homes. God Bless her!
