Why do cats scoot? My younger cat has a habit of every-so-often scooting on my carpet. Is there a fix?

If he checks out healthy, he's just trying to stay clean. There might be a little bit of poo stuck back there that he can't reach and it's annoying him. If it's a long haired cat, you might have a groomer trim the hair on his butt so it's more likely to stay clean. But I think all animals scoot once in a while -- at my house we call it "The Butt Scootin' Boogie" Good luck! :-)

i'd verify with yet another vet about the age of cats having anal gland complications. i understand you're conversing about cats, yet I actual have considered very youthful canines with impacted anal glands. It replaced right into a genetic ingredient the position the anal glands are placed too some distance from the position they could be. You did not say what breed of cat. i understand of a Himalayan who has very problematical stools and needs lactalose to help bypass the stool. This replaced into carried out less than vet care. He replaced into also scooting previously they looked after it. I agree about replacing the nutrition as well. i understand of yet another cat who ate tuna and scooted like loopy. at the same time as the tuna stopped so did the scooting. It replaced into aggravating her bum, for this reason the itch, for this reason the scooting. This cat is likewise over weight and can want to't attain her bum to sparkling it. very few thoughts. solid success.

The do not necessarily have worms, but it's a possibility. When I was still at home, we had a cat who was too big to clean herself and she was bad about scooting across the carpet. They basically do it to scratch, the reasons can very for why they are itching.

Well, it feels good, fleas, worms but, the main reason would be full anal glands. If they get infected they can even rupture. A vet of groomer handles cat can also express them.

The cat is either getting in a good scratch, or "wiping", cuz sometimes they just need that little bit more to clean off.

Is he whiping his butt? He's trying to be clean. Are you feeding him good food? Does he have the runs?
