The USA missle defense is run by the Air Force. The Minuteman missles in the hardened silos can reach anywhere in the world. They can only be launched by the code release from the President or down the chain of command if any are killed. Most missles are MIRV missles(multi independent reentry viechles) which means they can hit up to 12 targets with one missle and 12 warheads of upto 10 megatons will come out.

Well, we deffinately have enough to defend ourselves. What Korea was doing is showing that it can reach us without the use of aircrafts, submarines, or other payload carying vehicles (we can too). What will decide if we are able to stop it will be if the us can design a way to protect the coats with counterattack missles that hit the incomming threats over the ocean or cause it to loose its control and hit the water.
I live in Denver, colorado and did you know that there are numerous missle silos that are hidden under ground that look like nothing but a flat circular cement deck because the missles are underground and shoot out of the ground. It's a little scary to me because that makes colorado a target of intrest to any foe that we may come across.

If you are talking just missiles then the USA is virtually invincible. There are many cruise missiles available which can hit targets with accuracies as high as 2-5m CEP, plus thousands of other missiles and guided bombs.
As regards to nukes well here goes...as of 2006...
500 Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles which can have 1-3 warheads ranging from 500-750kilotons and can hit targets with a 100m CEP. These are based in North Dakota, Wyoming and Montana in underground silos.
336 Trident II D5 Submarine Based Ballistic Missiles arming 14 Ohio-Class nuclear submarines. These have 8x 100-475kiloton warheads and have an accuracy of 90m CEP. There is also a program for some 120+ unused Trident IIs to be equipped with GPS-guided conventional warheads
The Air Force also has 21 B2 Stealth Bombers and 90+ B-52 Stratofortress bombers which can deliver nuclear tipped advanced cruise missiles and nuclear bombs.
yep...pretty much invincible also here.

The US has the ability to hit just about anywhere in the world with a missile. And this ability is only useful as a deterrent to keep somebody from attacking us with WMD.
In fact, we are actually downloading nuclear warheads from missiles and replacing them with GPS-guided conventional warheads.

The US can obliterate any country on the planet with the push of a button without leaving the comfort of a Lazyboy and defend against any detected attack.
