it seems most religions are contary to each other. You cannot be a Christian and believe in Hindu Dieties. You cannot be a Buddist that worships Mohammed etc etc. If this is the case then over 50% of the world's religous population are plain WRONG in their beliefs. Does your flavour of god(s) not deem to enlighten the world's population so they know which religion to choose? If they do not then why not?

"Wrong.
Most religions are not contrary, only small minded ignorant people who are too puffed up about their little bit of knowledge think they are."
Are you saying that Christians are ok to worship Mohammed, Ganesh, the Devil or a tree? Of course religions are contrary logically oppose each other or dont I understand?

Don't get me started......
if a few people start worshipping aliens and perform strange rituals they are called a "cult" consider Wako..... if you invade someone/a country for land and their riches you are a dictator and need to be stopped consider Saddam, if you tell millions of your followers to bomb somewhere or kill people because it will improve your peoples lifes you are looked upon as one of the most evil men in history see Adolf. Yet if you do any of the above under the Heading Religion no matter what religion it is you are just following what your gods wanted and you will recieve a righteous path to eternal bliss......... Pathetic, its all nonsense, a cult that is accepted because someone wrote about it 3,000 years ago... yet none of it can be proved and the only thing that can is that there were dinosaurs and we DID develop from cavemen not a flipping rib cage !!!!! Their leaders also pay their preachers, take money from the poor who cling on to their every word and run profitable businesses, they store/steal millions of pounds worth of art and literature in the name of god...... If you want to be a part of something then be a part of caring for others lets forget all religion and make a new one called No one will die of poverty or war!! sell everything, your buildings, your valubles and live as a human race not races.! sorry to waffle on..... would you believe me if i said that all my family are very religious and i used to attend Sunday School??

Wrong.
Most religions are not contrary, only small minded ignorant people who are too puffed up about their little bit of knowledge think they are.
First you need to understand what is real religion or what is passed off as religion. We can all too clearly see that nowadays anything passes for religion - from everyday things like sport, television, movies to the extraordinary things like belief in aliens etc.
Any genuine religious system promotes good living, humility and peacefulness. Every living being develops at a different rate - we can see this at schools where even within the same grade there will be kids with differing levels of achievement. God has given knowledge to all different grades of society in a way that they can understand about spiritual matters. Freewill means some may choose to ignore these teachings. The knowledge a kid has compared to the knowledge a rocket scientist has are not comparable - yet everyone knows that the kid can acquire the required knowledge through diligence and this is no different in all the religious systems.
The Hindu scriptures explain that all living entities are in fact eternal spiritual souls who simply migrate through various material bodies. This means that an individual may experience various different beliefs through their journey in life. The sane person would not think that they are somehow superior to anyone since they may encounter accidents or good fortune or God's blessings may fall on someone else..at any time.

According to some studies, as many as 1% of those who say they're Christian also say they're atheists, so how you define what's a Christian, what's a Hindu, what's a Buddhist, what's a Muslim can be tricky.
Religions get remarkably specific about all their beliefs and doctrines, often about things that humans couldn't possibly know on their own, and usually they conflict. I think you're right, but you don't take it far enough. With as much variation as there is in the world's religions, a maximum of one of them can be 100% true, and more likely, none of them are.
But I'm sure the easiest answer, for any religion, is that God/the gods have deemed to "enlighten the world's population" and look, it's all in this book(s) right here.
The only way to know which one to choose, if to choose any at all, is to study the world around us. There are certain first principles that are logically necessary, and there are many conclusions we can come to from empirical evidence. Which religion, if any, fits the evidence? This is the enlightenment you seek. If there is/are a God/gods, the evidence is in the world around us.

Christianity believes there is only one way to the Kingdom of God and life everlasting. That is the basic tenent of Christianity, that Jesus is the Son of God and "no man comes to the Father, accept through (Him)". Nothing wrong with that.
There have always been and will be other religions but Christians view these as false gods and idols. Nothing wrong with thinking that either.
After all, why would anyone spend their time following a religion if they did not believe it to be the correct or true religion?
I would have more doubts, and less respect, about those who do not feel their religion is the only one or the true path.
Everyone should be free to believe whatever they choose. That is what God intended. He gave us free will and we have the freedom to search for Him. He hopes we will but also knows we may choose not to.
We live in a generation that arrogantly think that humans know everything and therefore we don't need God or His wisdom. We know better? I don't think so.

The world religions are only contrary to one an other on the surface. The all, at their core, support the idea that the world was made for man (as a test, a proving ground, a place to reach perfection or enlightenment). Man's role is to dominate, subjugate, and perfect the world. Man is flawed and therefore messes everything up. Man must be saved, either in this life or the next. The question isn't "which religion is right?" (they are just variations on the same theme.), it is "what if they are all wrong?"

I am a christian, born and raised. If i were born in Iraq i would probalbly be a muslim and worship Allah with the same conviction as i do Jesus Christ. There is a God and if He loves being worshiped by us He would not only let half of us praise Him. It just doen't make sense.
DO NOT JUDGE! i believe that if you follow your religion true and do the best you can according to your beliefs then you will prevail. The people who judge other religions are missing the point. If ghandi was born as an african-american in Memphis he would not have been hindo but how can the erligion you are born into be wrong??
Personally i believe that my God is my God! and i will do everything in my power to worship and honour Him and i will not judge any other religion as i would have done exactly the same in their posisiton.
I do however pitty those who serve no God and i will say a prayer to them.

i believe in following the Holy Bible. It has all the guidelines that we need to live by. It helps us to know what God wants from us the same we set down guide lines for our children. If they break the rules there are consquences, so God has set down the same type of rules for us all and if we break the rules without repenting we must suffer the consequences. All religions try to sell that they are the one and only. I have checked quite a few and the only place I want to be is the hands of our heavenly Father. The Bible can be proved to be true as it is used for a road map to every archelogical dig there ever was. It is the same int the New Internatinal Version as it is in the King James. It has also been proven to be translated with 100% accurate. The Bible has been compared to the original writings to prove this. Good Luck.

I am not any religion but consider myself a pantheist. I used to be Catholic but am no longer a Christian. I don't think that you have to believe in a religion (or a god for that matter) Whatever you need to do to function in life and make sense of the world, go ahead and believe what you want. That's what humankind has been doing for years, just trying to make sense of the cosmos by creating religions.
Believe in whatever religion helps you. But I am against religion that creates fear, dogma, and hatred for others of a different race, religion, or sexual preference. I'm sorry, any god that would be fine with attacking, hating, or insulting people for any of the reasons listed above is not acceptable in my eyes.

This is such a good question.... God in His wisdom speaks to mankind in all of mans cultures and languages, God provided a religion/beleif in each!
While man fights over which one is correct, man misses the main point! The messages provided in each of the holy books draws the reader back to the Divine Creator - making them ALL right. One is not more correct than another, they all offer the same healing, direction and salvation, ie; returning to the light, its just that the story lines vary but the Spiritual truth runs through all of them!

I seem to think they are all wrong to.
In fact I can come up with 3 religious commandment that would not conflict with any religion.
1.A human may not harm a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2.A human must obey the orders given to it by smarter human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3.A human must protect its own existence, as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
I'm sure people would have a problem with the 2nd and 3rd law.

The common denominator is HOPE; for a reward of one kind or another. Be it Karma, Salvation, Less time in Pergurtory, etc.
The result is more idealizism to acheive the reward whether it is treating Cows as holy objects, praying for forgivness, doing pennance or dieing while in jihad.
Most cause acceptable benefits to society but I'm not to fond of the extremist jihad idea.
