Ohhh i love crumpets, here are a few suggestions.

1 - Tin of ravioli - butter first, heat up ravioli, spoon over crumpets, yum yum

2 - Red Leicester Cheese, or any other, my "boyfriend" likes dairylee, but I dont like them.

3 - Sandwich spread

4 - Any type of pate

5 - Lashings and lashings of "President" butter.

6 - Marmite

7 - Jam or marmalade

Feet up and enjoy.

I like honey, marmalde(especially Cooper's Vintage Oxford), Tiptree Strawbeery Jam and even better, Tiptree Little Scarlet Jam(The two finest of jams that have alot more flavour), almond butter, cashew butter, butter thats been blended with sugar and cinnamon, lemon curd is great, some double cream with fresh fruit to top, fruit compotes, philadelphia flavoured cream cheese or sprinkled cinnamon/sugar combination are all great things to top rather plain crumpets.

Erring on the side of caution with regard to the butter dripping through the other side (especially in this HOT weather when one may be wearing white linen trousers, not a good look with oily stains) I'd go with mashed banana and a drop of proper maple syrup...does a safe bet mean it constitutes a plain topping...?

Cheeeeeeeese is amazing, grilled onto a crumpet, if you're feeling adventurous. Butter then marmite, and then cheese... WOW : ) : )

Butter until it comes through the other side and proper English Marmite (not that abomination that's called marmite in Australia - what is that?? No wonder Australians think they hate my mate Marmite) and shavings of cheddar cheese.

How could strawberry, blackberry or raspberry jam be plain. What about vegemite or honey or nutella. I always could never decide there were too many options.
