Whiskey won't last too long once opened because the alcohol will begin to evaporate out, especially in the summer. With enough time it will all evaporate, but that depends on the temperature and humidity of where it is stored.
Plus it does attact bugs such as fruit flies, yellow jackets and house flies, all of which promptly die. And a fly in your whiskey isn't the same as a worm at the bottom of a bottle of mezcal.
In a cool area figure a week or two before the proof is noticably affected. If its hot figure 4 to 5 days before you can notice the change in quality.

Good question, man. You would think that grain alcohol would last pretty much forever, but with the sugars in whiskey....If it's been sitting out awhile anyway, I would get on the ball and drink it up. If you just now lost the cap, just cover the top with a little saran wrap.

The drinking law clearly states if you loose the lid to your bottle you gotta drink it all before going to bed.

Keep it covered in a cool dry place and you should be fine for a couple of years.

at my house not usually more than a couple of hours......
mind you, with more self control, its possible to keep most alcohol for a very long time, if not indefinately, from what i've heard, although some spirits will lose a bit of flavor over time....

Depends on the # of people at your party. I would not keep it more than a year.
