Get the 2006. You will probably get a discount since the dealers want to get rid of the 06 inventory before the 2007 model comes in. The recall on the Altima's is for the 2.5 engine (see link below for recall info). The 3.5 has had no problems with the oil. I have a 2005 3.5 and I love it. Very powerful and smooth ride. It was a great purchase. I think Nissan also has some financing special right now. Take advantage of them while you can.

The '02-'06 model is a very cool family car. The 2.5L 4cyl models have had some major reliability problems and the 3.5L V6 models require premium gas, which is horse crap with gas prices the way they are. So neither really seems appealing to me. If you don't mind the premium gas requirment, I would say definitely go with the 3.5L V6. The 4cyl. is too weak plus the problems it has. If I were you, I'd wait until the Fall of '06 and buy a left over 2006 model at a deep discount. Good deals can be had at the end of the year because dealers are trying to clear the lots for the next years model. If money is inconsequential, go for the 2007 to have the latest thing...and buy me a left over 2006.

I am leasing an 05 that I *love*,
the 07 will be redesigned, and likely more expensive.

I wouldn't worry about the usualy "first model year" problems with most cars, because most of their changes are based on the older model Maxima.

If you know you like the 06 get it,
and don't wait.
I am not exactly sure when the 07 Altimas are due out, but it can't be long. The 2007 Maxima and the new Nissan Versa has already hit our lot.

I would wait until the 2007 model comes out. The new body style might grow on you. I personally think it looks better than the current version. Yes you might get a discount on the 2006 but unless you are really strapped for cash the 2007 model would be a great choice.

I don't know much about the Altima but I can tell you if they are changing the model I would buy a 2006, b/c a model in its first year will definately have more bugs than the previous model, example : If I wanted to buy this new model Mustang http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/News/pics05c/images/MustangGTCoupConcept10_jpg.jpg
Which they began making in 2005 I would wait until a year or two later to buy it when it is going to be more perfected.

Buy the 2006 model. If you wait to buy the 2007 model, then you will want to buy the 2008 model.

My 2001 Prius and my 2004 Prius were nice. The FUD about battery and automobiles is in simple terms FUD. there are a mode of Prius drawing near three hundred,000 miles with 0 issues. my own 2 have 80 5,000 and one hundred fifteen,000 complication free miles respectively. The lifetime complication-free of the 2004 is fifty seven mpg in accordance to the logbook I save (no logbook on the 2001). and that is US gallons, not Imperial gallons. good success on attempting to verify that with any pungent diesel that actual holds 4 people. aspects and restore are not any extra expensive then for an quaint vehicle. operating value is truly low. The 2004 has value 12 cents in line with mile for broking service upkeep, tires, and gas mixed. The 2001 appears to be like similar yet i do not have the precise figures. The extreme proprietor pride score exhibits that my good reports at the on the spot are not unique. As for the Nissan Leaf, i have attempt pushed it, and the significant situation is that that is too expensive for a second vehicle. It desires to be interior the $18-$20K determination, at $31K that is in simple terms too a lot.

metallman56 is correct there is a massive recall on the 2006 Altima models a few weeks ago.

They are burning oil excessively. Somewhere like 1/2 a quart of oil in 700 miles of driving.

i think the 06 with the 2.5l engine are having a massive recall right now, something about a oil fire. you might want to look into that first.

good luck to you.
