I think texting has hurt spelling, as has the theory in some schools that spelling is not important. Being an oldtimer, I don't use abbreviated spelling and so am not tempted to use it in important or unimportant documents

my stepdaughter spells how as haw and down as dawn so god knows how she would do with two syllable words. I dont even bother reading anything in text rubbish and there is no standard anyway - everyone spells things differently.

Good Lord No!
Not even on texts. There is no longer a problem with truncating text messages so why abbreviate?

Texting is used primarily by those who fail in the spelling bee contest, so, they resort to texting coz they have their own dictionary. (*JOKE ONLY)
The facts is, it hurt the english language system.
