I volunteer with the American Red Cross, CASA, coach little league and Girl Scouts. I am on the board at CASA. I enjoy giving back to the community. The negative aspects would include the politics, the good ole boy network, the gossip that goes on. People lose sight of the big picture and are just in it for their own gratification. :( What bugs me the worst is the adults who don't put the children first.

I just spent a week in Indianapolis working for Group Workcamps Foundation - Week of Hope. We had about 100 volunteers working in food pantries, soup kitchens, habitat for humanity, working with kids and old people in all sorts of situations. What a great event! I've been doing volunteer work for years and taking my kids with me to get them involved in volunteering too.

Negative aspects? I don't think I've seen any yet. Some of the work was hard or smelly or tiresome. But I think that makes me and my kids better and stronger and more disciplined.

I spent all my school years in Girl Scouts. After high school I continued to volunteer with a local troop and at the council level. I helped to organize events. I felt I received invaluable life lessons as a child in scouting and I wanted to give that feeling to the younger kids.

Volunteering for a children cancer ward is very rewarding. The negative if any is a great deal of sadness. Some of these children die just when you get attach to them. Those that have healthy children are very lucky. Kiss them and care for them and thank God everyday.
