Back when my daughter was little, she had to go to her dads for visitation. She came home every time with head lice. As you know all those products in the stores are very expensive. So there for having to do it all the time runs into money. I fought them things so much, for over a year!!! Like you I tried anything and everything that I could think of and they were still there. I took her to a beauty shop to get her hair done (it was a friend of mine's shop) he told me how to get rid of them. I did it and IT WORKED and it was so cheap. There was a lot of work involved in it but hey the way I looked at it, I had already fought them for a year, so this would be nothing.

Try this and I bet you will get rid of them:

You will need the following items:
Vasoline
Goop hand cleaner (this cuts the vasoline(grease)
Your choice of Shampoo
Your choice of Conditioner

Rub vasoline into the scalp of each childs head very good and then work it threw the hair. And no you don't have to cut their hair to do this. Don't go sparingly either. Leave the vasoline for at least 10 minutes per child or longer if you like. This is what is killing the lice (the lice can't breath and it also loosens the "glue" that holds the nits to the hair shaft at the same time). I would say by the time you do the last child, the first one should be ready for the next step.

Now for the next step: Work the goop hand cleaner into their hair untill you feel the vasoline is breaking up. The goop hand cleaner will not hurt their hair, if anything it is good for their hair as it will make it soft afterwards. Don't hold back on the goop hand cleaner. After you you have worked the hand cleaner in and vasoline has started breaking up .....

Next step: Shampoo hair with your brand of shampoo. You may have to repeat the goop hand process again several times. Keep using the goop and the shampoo back and forth untill you don't feel any more vasoline in the hair.

Last step: Once you no longer feel any vasoline left in the hair, shampoo one more time and then use your favorite conditioner on their hair and use it as you would normaly use it. After you have rinsed out the conditioner, comb the hair out, you can use the nit comb that you more than likely still have. The nits will comb out very easy, their will not be any lice or nits that can live threw what they just went threw.

Now your lice problem is gone and so are the nits!

Hope this helps you out, I know it sure worked for me. With you having 3 girls, this will more than likely be an all day thing for you. Good luck and if you need any more information, let me know and I will help you in anyway I can.

As a finial note....my daughter had long hair too..over half way down her back.. I could not stand the thought of cutting her hair off and I didn't have to cut it at all.

I'm a school nurse and work with families with your problem several times a month, it's not easy. Getting rid of them probably will take over your life for the next three weeks so hang on . First stop is the pharmacy. Talk to the pharmcist, he or she can recommend several brands from "natural",brand name to generic. (If I were treating my own head I would use one of the moose treatments, they seem to leave the hair in the best shape.) I have seen luck with some of the above treatments like baby oil, olive oil and vasoline. But there are some really harmful home treatments out there and use common sence, please.

The key to any treatment is the combing, I have never seen good results with the "free" plastic combs they include in the package that look like rakes. Buy one of those little metal or plastic nit combs with the tiny teeth. There is also a product many parents like that helps with combing that Nix makes I think it's called the nit cement disolver.

OK, first you tell your child what is up, they have lice, no big deal. Then start with the shampoo or whatever treatment you start, follow the directions exactly! Then the comb out, this may take hours! I mean hours! Leave not one hair uncombed, not one nit left alive in their hair. How do you tell if they are alive? The shampoo or moose will kill any live critters, the remaining nits (eggs) are the next generation set to hatch in two weeks. Your mission is to remove those babies! Their dead parents have attached the eggs to the hair shaft with a cement usually within 1/2-1" of the root. You will quickly learn that the live nits are difficult to move, the dead move easily. That is why you paid the extra money for the good comb, the rake's teeth only removes the dead eggs leaving behind the live. By working with a miniscule section of hair at a time you can do a through job the first time and not have a new out break in two weeks. I'm not saying it is quick and easy but in 17 years of dealing with the buggers hitting them throughly the first time is the best. Everyone in the family needs to be treated. One of the best tips I have ever gotten from a parent was that by placing a white sheet under the chair the child was sitting on when they were combing they could keep the falling nits out the carpet under their feet. When they were done the sheet simply went into the hot water wash.

Your house, don't just spray, vacume everywhere. Starting with corners, along the walls every piece of upolstered furniture you have.Throw out the bag when you are done!Use the lice spray everywhere everywhere you vacume. All throw rugs that can be go into the wash, same for bed linins, all clothes into the wash, eveything. Winter coats and all non washables to the dry cleaners.Your house will sparkle when you are done! Stuffed toys that will not surrive the wash can be bagged tightly into black plastic garbage bags and left for 30 days.(although I did have one really tough case where some toys had to be thrown out)

If you have physical limitations and this riggorious cleaning and combing is not possible and family and friends are unavailable. The suggestion of calling the Board of Health is a good one. They should be able to plug you into help.

In two weeks check all heads, retreat and reclean the house. Yes, I know this is expensive, try calling your kids school. I am willing to bet there are some coupons in the school nurses desk that she has left in an obvious place and the school clerk knows where they are. We keep them there for occasions just like this. Good luck

That doctor is wrong. There are effective shampoos and sprays that will kill these nasty things off. Go to a store with a pharmacist and have them show you what might be the best product then buy 3 times the amount suggested. I think the problem is just that you didn't get them all and you're being re infested. Make sure you are spraying all carpets, furniture, bedding, soak all brushes and combs and take your time when going through the hair. One egg will put you back at the start. Good luck. PS< now my head itches!!!

The first thing is this they are they rotten my daughter had the same problem so go get some baby oil or mayo your choice. Put it on there heads and I mean coat there heads like really lube them then get you some saran wrap and wrap them heads for about hour or half depending on the length then after wash hair will have to take the nits eggs out by hand because they stick to there head but it is a long process, do it outside in the sun you can see them better. get all pillows stuffed animals throw in a dryer for about 5 to 10 minutes on high heat. Anything that wont fit but in a large trash bag and seal it away for two weeks they will die to, no food.redo all beds couches rugs everything all over again. It will take you about two good weeks but keep it up, it works. The girls may not like how there hair looks or feels for ahile but the lice will be gone another solution is if any have long hait cut it, remember it will grow back. GOOD LUCK

You must be consistent in your treatment and repeat the application several times. Follow the instructions on the shampoo and repeat in 7 days or whatever time frame it gives you. Most treatments do not kill the nits or eggs so when they hatch the re-infestation begins again if you don't kill them before they can lay eggs. Besides bedding you must also treat your furniture and carpets. Treat all your girls at the same time and repeat for at least 2 more applications at the recommended intervals. Delaying treatment even 1 day may allow the eggs to hatch and lay more eggs.

I work in the office at an elementary school. We deal with this quite frequently. There is a product called Neon Nit. It is a spray that will turn all nits neon pink. Put all bedding, stuffed animals, etc in plastic bags and tie it and leave it there for a day or 2. Lice have to have human contact in order to survive.

Could be getting them at school,i had a nurse tell me once to pull my daughters hair into a pony tail and spray the heck out of it with hair spray, evidently they cant get through the hair spray to attach to the hair, you may want to call the school to make them aware and do a check on all students.Good luck God bless:O)
