at least 3 days, if you get an answering machine, do not leave a long message. Just say Hi it's (your name) thought I would give you a call and see what's up. Call me back if you want at ###-#### Later! women will say same or next day. But there is a guy code, follow it!

I think the general rule is three days, but it's a stupid rule. However, it really depends on the situation. Either way, don't call just to "chat". That's awkward with someone you don't know and it puts us in the uncomfortable spot have having to carry a conversation with someone who may or may not be an idiot. When you think of a reason to call, i.e. You left your diaphragm in my car, or There's a concert this weekend would you like to join me? Or even, I heard a joke today and thought you'd like it. Then call her, three days or not. But keep the first few phonecalls short and sweet. Nothing's more annoying than someone you don't know telling you your life story over the phone while you've got a billion other things to do. You can tell her all that stuff later.

But don't call her multiple times in the same day. If you leave a message, give her 24 hours to call back (this is standard etiquette, please, if you call my office, give me 24 hours to get back to you before you leave another 15 messages, thanks), if she still doesn't call back after a second message (Hi, this is Bob, we met at Sara's party. I thought I'd give you a call but I see you're not available. So you can call me back at (blah). Talk to you soon.) figure she's not into you. You can try her again in a week (maybe she's just having a crazy week) but if it's still no good, assume she's dead and move on.

If she had voluntarily presented you with her visiting card, with her phone number on it, then 2 days is a decent gap - before calling her up.
...But if she had just obliged your request, by listlessly dictating it for you to hurriedly write down, then you've a legitimate excuse to call her up the very next day - under the pretext of 'just checking' whether you'd got her number right !
If she shows any interest, continue the conversation. If not, simply thank her before excusing yourself for inconveniencing her, and end the call. Your next call to her, can be after another 2 days !
:-))
Best of Luck, pal !

I don't like to wait more than 2 days and will think you don't really like me. If you call the next day I am so flattered and I really think you like me.
