Well I have been to many places on this Earth, and I personally know that each and every culture has rude and nice people. France, Germany, UK, Belgium, Iraq, Kuwait, Turkey, Qatar, Canada, Mexico, US, Korea, Japan, Phillipines, and Kosovo. I think being an American caused the rudeness I encountered, and willing to try and speak the local language and learn more about their culture caused the kindness as well. So I think each and every person's personality causes the reactions and therefore each experience will be different. By the way for all of the Americans who think we are No. 1.....we are the biggest joke in every other country. So get off of your high horse and don't judge other people. :)

Sometimes when we travel, people in large cities are not helpful to us. In Paris, I often feel the waiters are rude to me and not helpful and they make fun of my accent when I speak French. People rush about and don't even look at each other. In the smaller towns everyone is friendly and kind, it seems. I think this is true in America, too. Often people in larger cities avoid eye contact and are not helpful, but people in smaller towns have the time to talk and be kind. Not all French are rude. Not all Americans are ignorant and greedy. We are the same inside and want to be accepted.

I don't know why people say unkind racist things, but it seems to be human nature to hate and be ignorant. I found French speaking people (as a group) to be extremely warm and loving and generous, as opposed to where I live now (California) where the majority of people I deal with daily are cold, unkind and selfish. I always wonder why people don't say Americans are rude.
There are good and bad people anywhere you go.

Be an American in France and you'll see why. The French are really fresh to us and don't give me that "ugly American" crap either. You can speak fluent French and be so polite as to put Emily Post to shame and your still going to get major attitude.

I studied abroad in France. I love the French.

Just as I can't understand why the Polish are always the but of stupid jokes - I can't understand why the French are so wrongly portrayed as mean. I always stick up for them.

Because if one goes to France and speaks English the average Frenchman is rude. I have proved this. I also speak Spanish, when I speak this in Paris my treatment is 100% better. Given that the English-speaking world saved your sorry *sses from the Germans TWICE, one would think you would be a bit more thankful.
