People with fat cats get a bad rap. I have had cats all my life. I am now an owner of an overweight cat. I have watched his food intake from day 1. He gets less than the recommended amount. He doesnt even like treats. He was allowed outside in my former house because he was too fat to jump the fence. So he was allowed to get out and chase whatever was out there. He is just lazy. Why, who knows?

Eating too much and not enough exercise. If you are giving your cat free access to food throughout the day you might want to stop and only bring out the food once or twice a day. Overweight cats can develop diseases like diabetes that can take years off their lives.

Seriously, what are you feeding him? And how much? Take him to the vet. Vets have low calorie diets for cats. Some can be bought at the big pet super stores. You are going to have to start measuring his rations and be prepared for some serious feline back talk.
What does he do all day? Sleep, right? You are going to need to get some kitty aerobics going. Get some toys and play with him.

It's probably a combination of a bad diet and not enough exercise. However, I would recommend visiting your veterinarian. There could be a chemical imbalance or other illness which is causing the obesity. Plus, your vet could recommend a solution.

well if he is netured, that will make him gain weight faster and have a flabby belly. Plus I'm assuming he is lazy and you just keep feeding him every time he asks. I'd change his food to weight control cat food if I were you, being overweight can be unhealthy.
