Definitely Panasonic PV-GS500, because it is a 3CCD camcorder. 3CCD means, it has 3 sensors (RGB) for each color Red, Green and Blue. The colours are more vivid. Quality is nearest to broadcast quality. Also remember, DV camcorder is 10 times better than DVD camcorder even though the lens on sony camcorder is Carl Zeiss but is not original carl zeiss, it is actually made by sony.

Also DVD is a compressed format (lossy compression so you lose quality), MiniDV is uncompressed or lossless compression).

DVD is pixels and MiniDV is lines.

I am a professional videographer and very loyal to sony, However i would not at all recommend that camera.

The main reason being that it runs on Mini DVDs. First of all those things are not cheap (about 6 or 7 bucks a pop) and you can only get about 33 minutes of video on each when using the normal quality settings. They are also not the best for post production editing. They tend to skip and have lots of trouble importing over the IEEE-1394 cables. If you are looking to do any post production what so ever go with a MINI DV camera. Also, if you do manage to get the DVD to import into the computer, you will be left with one long clip as opposed to a break down of individual scenes. If you are familiar with editing you will know what a pain it is to break down long clips into unusable sections.

With all that being said i would like to offer a suggestion to you. This camera is a bit more expensive but has amazing quality. If i was in the market for a new camera i would hold off until i had enough money to purchase something along the lines of this.

The quality is beautiful and the cameras are packed with necessary features while still be small and compact. They are not quite at the level of cameras such as the VX2100 but they are as close as you can get.

Good luck .

Obviously the Sony DCRDVD505...although it depends on what type of use you are looking for in a camcorder. You should check wich one is better for you. Are you more interested in video quality?...or camcorder features?...it's all up to you
