It's a nice exotic thing. The color-full pictures and chantings of Tibetans, the martial rituals of zen, the scientific behavior of Theravada. And people in Asian countries belief in pre modern animistic energies as well. That mixture attracts citizens terrified by the forces of the evil.
The world does not need Buddhism.
I think if Buddha had fore-casted this development of his experience he would not have spread his knowledge. It's a pity.
Some day I hope will a big enough amount of people have own experience of the true nature of mind and matter. This will be the only way of survival of human kind.

Do you mean increasing in numbers? If so it could be that it is a very pragmatic belief system with logical reasons for the beliefs.
It is very peaceful and caring.
It gives the individual complete control of themselves, in fact it emphasises complete self control.
There is no god.
It focusses on the present, not the past
Guy G, I have been Buddhist for 15 years, hardly a fad. You ''christians'' can criticise if you like but you can't give valid reasons for the increase in numbers

because buddhism teaches moral values and they do not ask you to believe there is such thing as God and God create everything out of nothing. it is the people that worship them as God aka Buddha. Buddhism mainly teaches mortal values, life and balance. it is a very respectable religion.

I agree with Pherdpherphle. Although I'm not a practicing Buddhist mostly because I do believe in a God, I've studied it for awhile and it is very influential in my life.
Don't knock something until you understand it...ignorance is petty.

It might be attractive at first because Buddhists are always trying to be nice. However, once you learn that they think that good comes from themselves, you know something is a little fishy.
