Laos, Cambodia, N. Vietnam, and S, Vietnam - are the four countries that used to be French Indo-China - they are together in a pocket on the s. West of China.

I've never traveled to this region, but the people from there that I've met in the USA are very nice people. The food from this region (as experienced in American restaurants) is good, it is nicely spiced.

Laos is the least developed and most enigmatic of the three former French Indochinese states. The lack of foreign influence offers travelers an unparalleled glimpse of traditional South-East Asian life.
The country has long been occupied by migrating Thais (including Shans, Siamese and Lao) and slash-and-burn Hmong/Mien hill tribes.By the end of the 18th century, most of Laos came under Siamese (Thai) suzerainty but the territory was also being pressured by Vietnam. Unable or unwilling to serve two masters, the country went to war with Siam in the 1820s.
About 60% of Lao, mainly the lowland Lao and a sprinkling of Thai tribes, are Theravada Buddhists.
The official language of Laos is Lao, as spoken and written in Vientiane.

Laos is in S.E. Asia near Viet Nam and Cambodia. Food is spicy, people are nice, interested on outsiders.
