if your friend was going on holidays for a month with her family, and she asked you would you take on the responsibility of looking after their dog?
i have a year and a half old dog (housetrained, and basic obedience) and am wondering what my friends would think if i asked them. is it a hassle? should i just put her at a boarding kennel (i don't want to, cause i heard some bad stories about em). Would it be better to ask a friend who already has a dog/dogs or one who has none?

I would ask her, but would also let her know that you will understand if it is too much on her.
If she says she will do it, let her know that if at any time the responsibility becomes too much, then she should feel free to board the dog in a kennel of your choice.

Before you do this, you need to think about whether or not you would be willing to do this for her, because there will come a time when you will have to return the favor.

Ask. If they don't want to they will say so. If they do want to they will not accept.

But think about this first. Will your friends really care for your dog the way you want them to? They could accept the responsibility - but are you sure they would give the dog attention and feed it on time - or even walk it? Are you sure they are good with dogs?

There are good and bad kennels. Network. Visit some of them. Ask around and find out what is good. Some of them are really good.

A month is a long time to ask someone to look after a dog. If you find a good kennel that will be good piece of mind for you while you are gone so long.

No. I would have to think long and hard about looking after a friend's child, but the dog is easy. I am not an animal lover and I have no desire to babysit a pet. I would ask around and find the best kennel with a good reputation. Your dog might not get along with your friend's dog. A friend without a dog may not know how to care for your dog.

Start asking around and see what responses you get. If afriend with a dog says ok, you've got to be sure the dogs get along or it could be disasterous. If you ask a friend without pets, you've got to see if the person understands the responsibility. Putting your friend in a kennel is the reason I don't go anywhere without my munchkin. Be careful. Be thorough.

You need to ask a friend that already has dogs. Plus, all you can do is ask them, if they say no then you could put your dog in a kennel.

I am dog sitting right now! When we go on vacation, they watch OUR dog and vice versa. It is what friends do. It is like asking someone to watch your child. It happens. Luckily our dogs get along great! The person who owns the pet is expected to bring enough food and stuff to last the duration of the stay though.

I think a month is a little much. I also think if your friend knows you were going on vacation and you needed someone to care for your dog, they would offer. Have they? I think a week would be the limit--after that would be taking advantage. Good luck!

If she had been a good friend to me , yes. Ask the friend who's lifestyle is suitable for taking care of a dog.

if it is more than like two weeks that you are gone, it'd probably be better to put her in a kennel unless your friend absolutely loves dogs. then if you let them watch it, ask them if te dog will be a burden on their lives

Sure, I would gladly. I love dogs. Have myself. But I really won't put that bother on anyone else except I am sure they feel the same way about my dog like I do.
