I am not saying it shouldn't be allowed, or that it should. Just posing the question.

Of course it is. Just like it is OK to have gays everywhere. Everyone seems to dwell on a gay's sexuality in these cases. Like a gay person would just join the army to meet men and have sex. I don't think so. Gay's in the military are there because they are interested in that type of career. There have been gays in every walk of life forever, invisible to us as gays and who cares anyway. We have to get over defining these people by their sexuality.

Well there are gays in the military. One of the issues is if in time of battle and they are bleeding, they may not be saved for fear of aids. They also may be at risk on the battle field where there is no protection. Not all people would be this way, but it is a possibility. My issue was when the chicks were fighting over each other. I didn't appreciate that element in my dorm and with being gay on top of it, didn't set too well.

I think it is fine as long as the "don't ask, don't tell" policy is kept in place and immediate action is taken to discharge any soldier or sailor proven to be involved in homosexual activities. There are enough distractions and stress in military operations. A heterosexual relationship within the ranks can complicate and compromise daily operations. A homosexual relationship within the ranks, makes things very difficult. Both types of relationships are dealt with accordingly when brought to light but, until it is brought to the attention of the proper leadership, a relationship of any type will become a major distraction to other members of the unit.

The military is like any other workplace in that, any type of sexual relationship known to others will be a distraction. The military differs from other jobs in that, you have to work very closely with other troops. Military personal have to live with, share bathroom facilities, and sleep in small quarters with others of the same sex. If a homosexual troop can live in this situation and not be a distraction to others, by keeping his or her sexual orientation personal, that person is allowed to serve in the military.

Historically, there have always been gays in the military it's just that many of them were wealthy, in-bred noblemen so it didn't get discussed.

Just because someone is gay doesn't preclude them from defending their country. The problems are caused by the homophobic bigots who are too ignorant to realise that gay is not a choice made at the age of 13 or whatever. And they don't all fancy you either!

No? Why not? If you were in an oppressed war torn country & someone had a gun at you mother's head I don't really think you'd care if the guy who turned up to save you was wearing a pink spandex suit & doing the bloody YMCA as long as he/she or whatever was there to rescue you & your family!!
Why do people still think its OK to assume that gay or otherwise sexually different people are less worthy of any rights afforded to straight people??? Same with racism, maybe I'm stoopid but I just dont get it!

I would like to have a shower without worry,
The fact some guy could be fantasising about me is NOT my cup of tea,

So if you want gays in the forces that's OK ,

But build INDIVIDUAL SHOWERS
BATHS so others can-not see each other naked,
They are building/making separate areas for women to sleep and bathe in,

Do not come up with a remark LIKE if it was a woman watching/looking at you in the Shower/Bath instead of a gay
THAT WOULD NOT BOTHER YOU
Well FU_KING RIGHT
It would not bother me ,
Cos then I would be having fantasies,
About her being with me in the shower/bath

im sure that there are gays in the military, and so far i believe that the U.S. has done a good job throughout this war, as long as there not thinking about pumping the guy next to them. besides if there werent gay people in the military, people like you wouldnt have questions like this to ask and the world would be pretty boring

They will go into battle like anyone else. They won't mince about in a time of crisis singing "its raining men", or discussing old Judy Garland flicks. Well I guess not, certainly no more than straight soldiers discussing football and singing "footballs coming home" whenever the footie is on the telly. It's about the fighting spirit of a man and his disciplin not his sexual orientation.

Let me ask you... Is it wrong for anyone to want to defend our country, our freedom and the rights we currently have?

Being gay doesn't make you a better or lessor individual. It just means your sexual preference is different. Why is it that being gay is frowned upon, yet being a lesbian is okay. Especially the lipstick lesbian. They fight for our country, but nobody ever says anything about them. What's the difference?

So, in answer to your question... Yes, it is okay for anyone who is an American Citizen to be in the military, gay, lesbian or straight. Their personal choices are between them and God, nobody else.

While gays have served as distinguished soldiers throughout history (Spartans at Thermopylae, Lawrence of Arabia, etc.), it is the smooth functioning of our present military that is of primary importance, not political correctness. Soldiers should be focused on the mission, not worrying whether his brother in arms is hitting on him. That's just how it is, ask a veteran.
