Those listed are basically the best options for your needs as they work and are compatible with each other, of course they aren't perfect but they do work and they are free.
I use open office and have had no problems with it, my 13 year old neice uses it as well and has no problems with it either
Until a new free office software comes available it's making the best of a bad job that is the only way to go

go to microsoft.com download try the new msoffice for free for 1 year
