Shalom (שָ×××Ö¹×) is a Hebrew word meaning peace. As it does in English, it can refer to either peace between two entities (especially between man and God or possibly between two countries), or to true inner peace, calmness or safety of one individual. It is also used as a greeting to either say hello or farewell, and is found in many other expressions and names. Its equivalent cognate in Arabic is salaam and sälam in Ethiopian Semitic languages.

Thanks For Your Question
Well it is so clear in the Islamic Greetings we say
Asalam Alikom Wa Rahmatul Allah Wa Barakatoh
and it means
Peace be upon you all with the mercy and blessings of God
and the other one when he hears this Greetings he says:
And peace be upon you all with the mercy and blessings of God
I think it is the best greeting ever :)

It generally means you have peaceful intentions.
The extreme alternative would be, "Draw your weapon, this is WAR!!!"
