No emotion has a true opposite. There are many emotions that aren't happy: confused, frightened, hurt, angry, sad, undecided. But none of them are the true opposite of the spectrum since most of them are all equally unhappy.

Well without defining happy ... I'll give my opposite definition anyway.....here goes. To live in denial of yourself, burial ground of emotions and pleasures (negative or positive doesn't matter!), to take all of this entangled debris and inflict it upon yourself (foremost) and then onto others. Ultimate unhappiness with little opportunity for improvement if courage is lacking.

When I'm not happy, I'm usually depressed, feeling lonely and isolated-separated from the Lord, usually through some action or attitude of my own. It makes me feel out-of-tune and sometimes I hurt physically. I have to be careful not to turn to food or something else for comfort. I snap out of it if I return to the Bible and meditate on the Lord and his Word-that's where the comfort is.

If you're not happy, then you must surely be lacking happiness. Perhaps the opposite of happy is sad. Sadness is the opposite of happiness. They are at opposing ends of the spectrum.

Please... We all learned in kindergarden that the opposite of happy is sad, as well as the opposite of white is black. Salt/pepper, up/down, east/west, left/right.... you get the picture.
