I worked for an LDS family once and every time I said something like, "Your son's fiancee called," they would correct me and say, "Oh, right, my future daughter in law." This happened on different occasions with different members of the family. What the hell is up?

Haha, that's funny. No it isn't custom. People say it both ways. I think it might just be a Utah slang kind of thing. That's funny.

It might have been a family joke. My family uses both phrases
