Any 1 of the 15 Giocattolo Group B's
In 1986, Sports Car enthusiast and previous owner of the Toy Shop performance car dealership, Paul Halstead and F1 car designer - Barry Lock, teamed together to make a remarkable sports car. A car of speed and handling, yet beautiful looks which rivalled names like Porsche and Ferrari. The start was to redesign an Alfa Romeo Sprint and insert a mid-mounted Alfa V6 engine. The Alfa engine then became hard and expensive to import and put in the cars, so they went looking for a new engine.
The option they found was the Holden 5.0L Walkinshaw Group A V8 engine. After redesigning the mid engine bay and moving the barrier behind the front seats forward an inch they were able to make it fit. With more 'mumbo' than the Alfa 6 and a much cheaper price tag they decided that the Holden engine was right for what was to become one of Australia's top super cars. After upgrading the engine and fabricating some parts themselves they were happy with the performance output and so the GROUP B tag was given to the car.
Of the 15 cars made all ended up with V8 engines, including the Alfa V6 prototype which was nearly written off by a Police 4WD. So it was then rebuilt and became production car 001. The body panels were re-done with Kevlar body panels, then came the Brembo brakes and F1 type Suspension components. The right package at the wrong time was how it panned out for Lock and Halstead, when the company closed in 1989.

I have two, depending on my mood, that really stand out to me.
1. A 1958 Cadillac Series 62 DeVille Convertible. Take the 365ci, bore it .030 over, slap the '59-'62 390 crank in for a 395 ci, cam it and fab up a new intake, put in a mild cam, and hook it up to a 700R4 automatic overdrive tranny. Put in a 3.73 rear end, and an oil and transmission cooler for towing. Paint it black with a black top, then have a charcoal grey leather interior with pink piping, and top it off with a CB radio. And it has to have wide whites, of course.
2. '20's T bucket roadster. Get a Hudson Twin-H Power 308ci straight six, give it the 7X treatment, hook it up to the 4-speed with overdrive Hudson gearbox. Hardware store 18" pipe with motorcycle baffles for muffling coming straight out the engine. Ford 9" rear end. '39 Chevy grille. '52 Chevy steering wheel. Beer keg gas tank. Pabst Blue Ribbon beer tap handle. Saddle blanket upholstery. Use a front door handle from the hardware store for the door handles. Paint the car silver, and the engine and steel wheels blue. Only 220hp? Only 1200lbs!

A Wimbledon White 1969 Boss 429 Mustang. The engine would be a Ford Racing 605c.i.d. V-8. It would do high 9 second 1/4 miles on 91 octane pump gas, and be street legal.

1976 Black Pontiac Trans Am with Gold Bird on the hood. Yes the one in Smokey and the Bandit. Or a 1970 Chevy Camaro. These were the cars us teenagers had in the 80's.
