This drug lowers blood sugars, its really helped me, however, along with this drug I take 2 oral meds and I've gained nearly 30 lbs since March, (When I started the shots), my doctor doesn't know what to do either. Any one with advice, or personal experience with this?

That's interesting because byetta is supposed to help you lose weight. An average of about 10pounds. Are you on Avandia? Because Avandia is noted for making you gain weight. Fortamet, Glucophage and Metformin (all the same) are supposed to suppress your appetite and help you lose. I bet you're on Avandia. Or on insulin. Insulin is a hormone and you will gain weighto n insulin. Also, if your doctor can't answer you, you need to change doctors. It's his/her job to know. By you gaining weight you are increasing your blood sugars. The more weight you gain, the higher your blood sugars. The higher your blood sugars, the hungrier you are, the more you'll eat, you'll gain weight. Challenge your doctor and demand answers. Diabetes is linked to strokes and heart disease. When is he/she going to answar you? When you're drooling in a cup confined to a wheelchair?

Fascinating.

I haven't heard anything about the med, and I'll probably look it up in a bit.

Here's an eye opener for what to do with diabetes in general, and I'm not suggesting to not take your meds. Do take your meds and excersize.

FOR TYPE I

If your doctor is not willing to help you address your immune function, I'd recommend to see an Alternative Physician in your area. They will.

Generally speaking, the medical community does not want to acknowledge Diabetes Type I as an immune related disorder. They will say that the cause is 'unknown' or it was brought on by a virus. This is not specific enough. There is huge research being done, and its not taught in med schools, because it goes against the orthodox standards. Well, when will the cause be known? The truth is it already has. The reality is that addressing immune function does not fall under the catagory of anything that can be patented, meaning a company who manufactures drugs cannot claim it to be theirs and cannot make profit from it. How does this relate to med school? Drug companies give funding to med school, so it filters down into the study texts.... 'cause unknown'. Seek better for yourself. See someone who is versed in these things. Find an Alternative Physician in your area who might be understanding of your body's requirements.

FOR TYPE 2

I have been diabetic for 16 years. I am insulin dependant. I know exactly what your problem is:
1. You are NOT getting enough exercise.
2. You do not need those medications if you are gaining weight. You are eating TOO MUCH, which is resulting in your high blood sugars.

You need to see a new doctor right away. Your doctor should have figured that out immediately. I highly recommend you see a dietician and STICK TO THE PRESCRIBED DIET. If your bloodsugar gets low, go back to the doctor ASAP (don't put it off). Your physician then should REDUCE your medication to balance your blood sugar. If your bloodsugar is HIGH, do NOT use medication to correct it. Exercise for 30 minutes vigorously. Then test your bloodsugar in 1.5 hours. It should drop significantly. If it is still high, exercise for another 30 minutes, etc.

My husband is on Byetta! He's still on Metformin (1500 mg daily) and Lantus insulin! He's not gained any weight but not lost any either! It's brought his blood sugar down from 500 to within normal limits!! Hope it helps you as much as it did him!! GOOD LUCk!!

In reality it isn't immoral to take drugs. The societal constructs created by the powers that be have made it so. Should the people wake up and realize this it will no longer be considered immoral. Waking up equates with with not being judgmental. :))) Personally, I love weed. It is good to be high and an excellent awakening tool as well.

Maybe your doctor doesnt know enough about the drug to do anything...?We just started prescribing this at work a couple weeks ago, actually for one of our docs,he loves it. Call a Pharmacy,a good one like a clinic pharmacy or something they know more and have instant access to doctors to ask questions....even if it isnt your pharmacy.
