Wow...some of the questions that people present...and I wouldn't take time to answer this one if I didn't think you were serious. Well here goes: There are two forms of the virus...either oral or genital. Herpes is actually related to Herpes Zoster which is the "Chicken Pox"...just thought I'd throw that one in while on the subject...but Herpes can be spread ONLY DURING AN OUTBREAK...and you should (obviously) know this already. Never have oral sex or ANY kind of sex when either you or your partner is experiencing an "outbreak"...and WHY would you WANT to?? Once you get Herpes, you've obtained them for life...so think of the other person rather than yourself...even if your partner already has the Herpes virus. You don't want to spread it out to other places of the body. Herpes stays in the infected area...so keep it there and don't spread it further. Get control of your hormones and NEVER have sex during an outbreak. The day is coming, I believe, that those who knowingly spread the disease while during an outbreak, will be facing criminal charges because the damage, once done, last for the remainder of your life.

There are extremely rare cases of oral herpes following oral sex with an infected person. You both have herpes, not clear though if the same type (HSV1 or HSV2) If different, you can get infected again with your partner's type. The up side is that a second infection is much less serious than a first one, most of the times very mild or even without any signs.
Conclusions? It is fairly safe, from herpes point of view (there are other dangers like gonorrhea and HPV)

It can be safe as long as you take the right precautions.
Genital herpes (herpes simplex 2) can be spread to someones lips or mouth if the person has preformed oral sex to someone who has the virus. It's usually not spread this way, but it can happen. If you are going to do it, the safest way is to use a condom or a dental dam (for a girl).
My fiance and I both have genital herpes. I have had it for 5 years and I gave it to him about 8 months ago. He knew I had it before we started having sex and knew that he would probably get it from me. We both perform and receive oral sex from each other and we don't use any kind of protection. Neither of us has had herpes spread to our lips or mouth area from doing this! Also, we never have oral sex (or sex) with each other if either one of us are on a breakout.
So yes, you can be safe about it, as long as you use the right protection. Good luck!

Oral herpes only transfer to the genitalia about 10% of the time. They are caused by two similar but different viruses. Genital herpes are transferred to the oral cavity much easier. If either partner has AIDs, however, all bets are off.

You're already infected so that's fine as long as you don't spread it to others who doesn't have it. There's no safety issue involve anymore between you and your partner because both of you already got it.

yes, you are already infected. even if a person isn't showing signs fo the disease, you can still get it from them. it is extremely responsibe to find a partner that has the same disease you do and you are not out infecting others. woo hoo to you. wish the world had more of you
