How do I maintain a vegetarian diet without people thinking that I must not like all the slaughtering of animals? I really don't care whether animals are slaughtered or what, I might do this to be healthy.

Why do you care what people think?

You should be proud of being a vegetarian and not care about what people think. A bit disappointing that you don't care about the animals though :'( but I suppose that it will save you a lot of drama, as there are plenty of closed-minded people who are just waiting to judge you based upon what you eat. Don't worry. Do what you think is best - and if it's for health reasons, people are more likely to leave you alone. Just brush it off - "I'm a vegetarian for health reasons. *shrug*"
As it is, I am vegetarian and for me, I feel proud to tell people that I am for both health reasons and ethical reasons but each to his/her own. People who judge other people like that are stupid - pay no attention to them. If they continue to bother you, state that whether or not you don't eat meat for health reasons or moral reasons, you are still going to be healthier than them and you aren't eating a dead animal.

Say your cholesterol is on the moon. Only animal foods contain cholesterol, so avoiding them makes your choleserol go down. This excuse will not work if you still eat dairy (especially fatty cheese) and eggs. You would also avoid trans fats (the only way vegetable oil raises your cholesterol) to maintain the lie.

There are closed-minded people everywhere you turn. Unfortunately, some will think that of you no matter what you say. I am not a vegetarian, but good for you for trying to be healthy.

I'm a vegetarian and I just don't feel a need to explain myself to people. I'm not against the killing of animals either it's human nature, I just can't stand the taste of meat.

Just tell them you "choose" to be vegetarian. I have been for 19 years, and frankly, it gets old. A brief answer, generally gets a brief responce...unless your talking to someone arrogant, in which case, you don't want to talk to them anyway.

Just brush it off basically, don't make a big deal out of it, and other people wont either.

If people you didn't know jumped off a bridge, would you? You cannot live your life based on what others do or think. You are your own person, live your life the way you want.
