Thanks to everyone who answered the question! It's hard to pick the best answer everyone added something that was good!
I guess I'll never be truly convinced that he was a real live person until bones are found or when I am not in school and working full time one day I will take the time to study it! Some of these books sound really interesting!
Thanks all!

I don't think you should rely on yahoo answers for the answer to this. It is important enough a question considering the effect the answer has on your life and beliefs that you should research the information for yourself. My answer is that there are some historical references to Jesus but they are not accepted as authentic or reliable by all. There are quite a few books out there and lots of websites.

Wow, difficult question. First, Christian believe that Jesus was a man. The bible makes it very clear that Jesus was God made flesh. Jesus even stated he was a man.

In the earlier part of the 20th century, the Dead Seas Scrolls were discovered. These scrolls are of great importance because they are some of the earliest writings about Jesus Christ and his teachings. They were written sometime during the first century. The Dead Sea Scolls and other independent sources give great evidence that Jesus was a real person. But, the harder question is, is Jesus who he claimed he was? Was Jesus God made flesh? Is Jesus the saviour of mankind? In order to answer this question it is more about a matter of faith than science. It is not a cliche. There are eyewitness accounts that Jesus healed people and performed miracles to show the people he was really God. He spoke of prophecies that became true. He conquered death. Scientific research requires reproducibility, but there isn't any. Do you believe the eyewitness accounts? Or, do you believe they were superstitious people prone to fantasy and exaggeration?

Every night, I watch the evening news and the weather forecast for tomorrow. If the weatherman reports that there will be scattered showers throughout the day then I take out my umbrella and put it in my briefcase so as to not forget it in the morning. Why do I put so much faith in the forecast? After all, it is only a forecast. It is not 100% accurate. If I can put so much faith in something as unpredictable as the weather then why can't I show some faith in Jesus and his claims.

The road to discovering Jesus begins with faith and not science.

Josephus, a renown, unbias historian of that time period has Jesus' life and trial documented.

Also the writings of the Sanhedrin at that time....you can find them specifically documented on Jesus in a book called, " The Archko Volume"....
A very small book that can fit in your purse. But packed with actual interviews of Gamaliel with Joseph and Mary and Caiphas, the High Priest during Jesus' life.

Yes it has been proven that Jesus was a real man that walked the earth. I man named Simon Greenleaf who founded the Harvard graduate school of law and is one of the worlds greatest authorities on evidence put Jesus and the resurection to the test and proved it to be true. However the book is not written about him or religion the book is to help us in our lifes journey. And is actually written for him to help us understand.

Jesus lived and breathed as a real man. His mother was Mary and the Holy Spirit came upon her and she conceived Jesus. Mary married Joseph after conceiving Jesus and he knew her not, until the baby was delivered. Jesus is the son of Gad, but he became flesh to come to the earth to redeem mankind. This was necessary after the fall of Adam. Jesus was the only perfect person, and when He died, He bled real blood.

it is the scholarly consensus today that Jesus was a real, historic man. He did not write a book and probably was not even able to do so. The New Testament was written years after his death by various followers, and not even in the language that Jesus spoke.

Probably not.

If so, he certainly did not perform any miracles. Most likely he was a cult figure who's ideas took root. However, I'm skeptical. Christianity is based on several religions combined: Judaism, Mithraism, and others.

Use Occam's razor to answer the question. What is the more likely possibility?

As much as Moses was.

God reveals, man observes. Scientific and historic uses observation. There are four eyewitness accounts, four people who presents Jesus live and death, God raising him from the dead, and who were waiting for his return.

The Christian bible is not a scientifc or historic book, but for the believer (note the word believer) is it the word of God spoken by the prophets.

Now to your question: Is there any scientific or historical proof that God exists or doesn't exist? No. Proof requires man obversation and God is reveal, he is reveals as spirit (wind).

The book of Josephus, considered the most accurate book written in the time period, the one from which all others are in fact judged, mentions a Nazarene miracle worker named Jesus, and that his followers claimed that he rose from the dead. Josephus was, by the way, not a practicing Jew or Christian so his mention of Jesus was not religously motivated.

Yes I believe he was real, a real man.
I was told they found his bones somewhere.... but how did they know it was his??? Which is kinda dumb for people to think its Jesus' bones!

I think he was real, even being Pagan. But I dont believe that he died on a cross for me. Nor is he my lord and savior.
I believe he was a spiritual man and a healer. And that he lived a full life, died of old age or something.

Good Luck on that Scientific stuff though!!!! :) Youll prolly only find Mumbo Jumbo....

Blessed Be!
