I'm throwing an all white attire surprise birthday party around the pool for my husband around Labor Day. Any ideas on an easy but elegant menu?

Since it's around the pool, and since I'm assuming everyone's wearing white, you'll neither want to have anything messy nor too smokey (cuts out a lot of possibilities). But because you'll have men there, too much finger food is also not going to be a good thing.

You might try hibachi cooking. You could do Chicken and Beef Satay (neither drips and everyone can eat hearty without a lot of fuss.

Skewer mushrooms and meatballs and cook on all sides, then brush with a little basil marinade.

Cube a beef tenderloin into 3/4" pieces on a skewer and brush with a little Greek dressing and crushed pepper. Sear on all sides, then slide off the skewer and have cocktail toothpicks for people to pick them up and dip them in Greek tzatziki sauce with a heavy garlic flavor.

Then you could have a bunch of canapes laid out on "kick boards" (the kind the kids use when learning to swim). Use a Krylon spray paint to decorate the kickboards, then use ConTact paper to make them look like surfboards. They replace trays to serve your food.

Then find a good signature drink, like a white martini, White Russian, or Kahlua and cream and have fun.

I think that your idea for a white party on labor day is awesome! For food try shrimp cocktails and ceviche tostadas, great summer food and soda and beer in a tin tub full of ice maybe around a bar with stools. Easy food.

well, its probably going to be hard to pull off the whole elegant thing,, so i wouldnt do elegant food, but elegant accesories will make it look great. as for food, go with italian. Everyone always seems to love baked ziti and meatballs.. Also cookies will go fast too. Maybe you could try an assorment of fruits with different dips or something.. but a buffet would probablyy be your best bet. good luck !

Meat platter, (smaller) rolls, a crock of either Italian or Swedish meatballs, finger foods, like hoar derv es, cheese, pepperroni & assorted crackers, a couple different salads..... Fruit.....
Cold things at a party when properly put on ice, better takes care of themselves, so you can enjoy your guests.
