Mine is CLOSED! I do not want you to help. I do not want you to see what I'm doing. I don't even want you to wash dishes with me. I'd just as soon have my guests think I cooked with a magic wand and pixie dust! I feel like Marian McEvoy, who says, "Let's just have you drinking wine and talking. You didn't come to work hard with me and watch me get upset over the sauce. I'll be out in a moment."

So, how do y'all feel about opening up your kitchen to helpful guests?

My kitchen is open to family members but when I am cooking I like to concentrate. Family members know though that if they cook in it they have to leave it as it was and wash and dry pots after them. They always come in to see what's cooking and peek in the pot or oven which is fine with me. Sometimes they want to learn something , so I let them and just guide them along. I believe the kitchen is the heart of the home as everyone gathers around it wonderful cooking aromas. I tend to sit with my guests and when they have gone do the cleaning. If someone wants to offer to carry things to the dining table or take a few plates away after eating to the kitchen, that's okay. I won't let them wash pots as they are my guests.

My kitchen is a warm hospitable place and I enjoy people helping out or visiting with me while I cook or clean up. If you, however, prefer your kitchen off limits that is YOUR choice and it doesn't matter what anyone else does. If you feel that way, play the gracious hostess by having things pretty much ready when guests arrive and leave the clean-up until everyone gone. Better yet, hire someone to serve and clean up for you. It is more affordable than you think. You could have a cute sign cross stitched or lettered stating (KITCHEN OFF LIMITS) or similar.
The most important thing is that you enjoy entertaining and your guests as much as you want them to relax and enjoy the evening.
You go girl!

Everyone in my family has an open kitchen. Just as they say friends and family come to the back door,it is also true about an open kitchen. I enjoy being able for my guests to watch and occasionally help while cooking. It takes some of the burden off of me and creates a warm welcome atmosphere for all.

I would choose an open kitchen because you would have more space. Also, you could have a big table facing the kitchen or a bar table to eat breakfast and other meals. Closed would just limit your space a bit..

I'd rather they stay out. I love entertaining, but I plan everything and I know exactly how and when it gets presented. I want my guests to enjoy themselves and walk away saying that it was a great party. I appreciate the help, but I'd rather take care of it myself.

My family & friends know me too well. No one steps foot in my kitchen! LOL

My boyfriend is the first person I've ever allowed in the kitchen to help me. My family almost fell out of their seats when they found out we had prepared a meal together! Guess it must be true love.

I don't like people watching me cook. When my sisters and I are at my dad's cooking, we always get in an argument. Someone always does something differently, so we don't always agree with what each other is doing.
