Frank Shamrcok vs. Tito Ortiz from UFC 22. I have now watched all but about 5 of the UFC matches and this was by far the best ever for a few reasons - Frank Shamrock was lighter and shorter than Ortiz going into that fight but still won, and because the fight showcased virtually all of the major styles of martial arts from boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, jujitsu, submission holds, to take downs and the incredible flexibility of Frank Shamrock who fought from his back which is the hardest way to win or to get through a fight. More than all that both men had incredible heart, soul and a supreme will to win!! It is rare to see that level of skill from two evenly matched fighters. If I can nominate second place, I would have to say Marco Ruas vs. Paul Varellans from UFC 7. This was a true David and Goliath match where the "David" (Marco Ruas that is) won after a titanic struggle!

These are my top 5:

#1.Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonner at the Ultimate Fighter 1 season finale. At the time it was an undercard match, in 5 years it'll be a main event LHW title match.

#2. Randy Couture and Tito Ortiz at UFC 44 cause that was the fight that humbled Ortiz.

#3. Rich Franklin and Nate Quarry at UFC 56 only because I felt Quarry was over rated and someone had to bring him down to earth, or the mat via knock-out at 2:34 in the first round!

#4. BJ Penn and Matt Hughes at UFC 46 cause no one thought Penn even had a chance and he won via choke in the first round.

#5. Frank Mir and Tim Silvia at UFC 48. Personally I hate them both but Silvia got his arm broken and still wanted to fight on! Either that's heart or stupidity, pick your poison.

One of the most exciting and controversial was Matt Hughes vs. Carlos Newton. It was a well matched fight, but then Carlos got Hughes in a really deep triangle. Hughes picks him up off the ground and puts him on the fence. This is where trouble began because Hughes slams Newton on his head making him pass out. However, Hughes didn't come to right away making one think that he didn't slam Newton but rather passed out due to the lock. Great fight. My second choice would be Renzo Gracie vs. Sakuraba "The Gracie Killer" in Pride. They fought for a while, but in the end Sakuraba knocked Gracie's elbow out of joint with a kimura type lock to win the fight. Very grosse, but very exciting.

Well in my opinion its definitely Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic match that took place at PRIDE Final Conflict 2003. That was a clash of extreme striker and extreme grappler and probably the biggest comeback in MMA history. They got to the ground for a few seconds right at the start but Mirko landed on top and got up quickly and Nogueira was unable to capitalize on that. From then on it was ten minutes of hell and severe pain and punishment for him. Mirko was literally butchering and killing him with every single combination he could think of. He was hitting him with strait punches, hooks, low, middle and high roundhouse kicks and even hit him with a clean soccer kick to the side of the head at one occasion when Noguera fell to the ground. At the end of the round "Cro Cop" got him perfectly with his trade mark left high kick, dropped him and came quickly down for one more punch to finish and at that very moment the bell sounded to end the round and save Nogueira who slowly went back to his corner. He looked bloodied and beaten almost unable to continue the match and Mirko on the other hand lemon fresh and confident for the second round. But just as the round started Nogueira suprised Mirko and everybody else with a lightning fast take down and landed immediately in the side mount and before Mirko could even react got the full mount position and started raining barrage of punches. "Cro Cop" tried to hold him off but to no effect and at one point he extended his right hand to protect him self which was all Nogueira needed. He quickly isolated it and put on a perfect armbar for the greatest comeback and one of the most attractive submission victories in MMA history.
If you haven't seen this match, by all means do! I guarantee you'll enjoy it.
