Preachers like to claim the US was founded as a "Christian nation" inspired by God.

Thomas Jefferson is usually given credit for being the author of the US Constitution. Thomas Jefferson did not believe that Jesus was God, he was a Unitarian, or Deist. He was opposed to Trinitarianism and the teachings of Paul. He claimed Paul was the "anti-Christ."

So, how can anyone claim Jefferson was inspired by God if they reject his opinions concerning the Trinity (Jesus is God) ?

Link to an earlier question I posted that summarizes Jefferson's bible from a Wikipedia article:

It appears some Christians do more lying than the ACLU. Link to Wikipedia article on Jefferson:

Hi, KM.

My questions and answers are usually intended to enlighten, not disparage. People should follow whatever keeps their tootsies (feet) warm, but they should at least be aware of the foundations for what they believe.

And, I pose questions so that everyone has an opportunity to offer their opinions or explanations. (answers)

Have a nice day.

Mainworry, Wikipedia was recently (last month?) demonstrated to be more accurate than Encyclopedia Britannica.

Wikipedia has no agenda.

To Pacemaker:

If the truth threatens your "faith," perhaps you should reconsider the basis for your "faith."

Why would you oppose the truth being told?

To Wha???:

Glad you liked the answer. :-)

The term "Unitarian" is a term used to describe a person who does not believe in the "Trinity." It is not the sole property of the Unitarian Universalist church. Deists are Unitarians in that they do not believe in the Trinity.

Jefferson was (allegedly) a "Deist" and a "Unitarian." The terms are redundant, but are used to clarify.

Thanks for the enlightenment.

Thomas Jefferson was an advanced thinker for his day, and for our day too since we are regressing rapidly.
Just by dumb luck do people like him rise out of the muck and mire.
You would think we would have advanced to be better thinkers by now. Christianity has single hand-idly taken care of that progress.
What brought down the greatest empire known to man, Rome? Was it a more advanced society? No, it was human hating Christians. It was a form of cancer from the inside.
A cancer that is plaguing us.

dude, i hate to burst your bubble, but i think you have seriously misconstrued the philosophy behind Unitarianism and Deism.

Let me help you a bit.
I attended and was active in the Unitarian Universalist Church for many years. The basic philosophy resides in the "individual freedom of belief", this does not mean the congregation is or is not Christian, does or does not follow Christ, or believes in or doesnt believe in Biblical or Christian principles. They teach on every belief, religion and philosophy. All are embraced, but are only commited to via personal choice, everyone is accepted.

Therefore by saying someone was or is Unitarian or Deist you are NOT ruling out the possibility that they follow Christ and/or Biblical principles.

Now, my friend, you are enlightened.

Very good question! To put it in a single word, I would have to say "marketing." We Americans excel at discarding reality, staying ignorant of facts and going along with the crowd. Plus it's easier to get us to write checks to support certain causes if we don't know any of those "unnecessary" details.

Jefferson was a human, and if discretion is not used the spirit world will influence u, after all v r warned that satan masquerades as an angel of light...the only truth is the suffering that God Himself went thru...that is the real test of faith. difficulty should not be an occassion to curse God, or defy Him as we see Job... even St. Paul suffered a disorder he never described particularly, except that it made him a sorry, laughing spectacle on occasion. yet He never gave up on Truth, on Christ.

Hi J T-

My husbad is fond of telling me not to judge a religion by its followers, which I think is appropriate to share with you here.

I am not Christian, and I don't really have interest in the foundations of America and faith, as I believe that church and state should remain separate, but thank you for providing the information. I will review it at a later time. I must resume my life oustide of YA at some point! :)

Best wishes.

To "JT"
I've looked at your posts and it seems you spend most of your time on here trying to disprove God or Christianity. That is a pretty sad existance. Why do you feel the need to "disprove" anything, let alone someone's religious beliefs? That just shows what a hateful person you are. If you don't believe then that is on you, but don't try to tear down what others believe. Life is hard and everyone needs to believe something to get them through the difficult times. We Christians are brave enough to tell the world that we believe and place our trust in something greater than ourselves. Why do you make it your mission to try to take that from us? Sad man...real sad. Please stop. Get a life

Cool question. Though might I suggest that you might seek another view point. According to the bible, Satan never killed anyone. Yet God boasts of killing off an entire planet with a flood. Satan also never killed innocent babies. God on the other hand killed cute Egyptian babies because, get this, their parents didn't worship him. Who is the real evil one? If TJ did anything bad, it is because God was talking to him. Kind of ironic eh! .. If you believe in that nonsense that is.

the reason that people claim things like that is because they don't do research before they open their mouths. the majority of people believe what they hear/read, don't bother to check source credibility, and don't care so long as somebody else believes with them. i like to call these people "idiots". even if you showed one of these "idiots" your research, it would still find a reason to maintain its current paradigm, even if the facts are overwhelmingly contrary to the claim it has made. unfortunately, most idiots will remain idiots for the span of their life.

Those are lies spread by the ACLU and others. Why would anyone use or believe what they read on Wikipedia? Then to help spread these falsehoods makes me question your agenda.

STOP THE DECEPTION !!!
