I dont mind you asking NikkiD, I asked because I'm interested in the way styling changes thru the ages. It seems to me that in the early 80's styling reached a point where it couldn't progress much further. They dont seem to change much now except the colours.

Thank you for your comments NikkiD, I suppose I dont really take into account the shape of things as much as the overall effect th materials and style give. For me 'modern' hi-tech began in the 80's.
If you look at an angular modern car (for example) and then an older angular model you can still see which is more up to date.
I suppose what I was trying to say is that this type of style lead to the things we have today although the form it tkes may be different.

Reaper, do you mean you think it was ahead of it's time?

It's contemporary for 1982. Things were very square cornered in the 80s. Look at the cars.

Can I ask, why are you asking? This seems like one of the more arbitrary questions I've come across. :o)

Edited to add:

Re-reading now with your added comment, I think I misunderstood your question. Do you mean you think it looks modern now, considering it's actually from 1982? Or do you mean that you think in 1982 it would have looked very modern? Because I agree with the latter statement. I think in 1982 it probably looked state of the art, but today I do think it looks dated. Generally I think electronics today are very round and "swish" looking, with as few sharp edges as possible and lots of round imagery. Smooth and sleek seem to be the fashion.

See how it's rounded over the top edge, and has the added rounded shaping across the front?

Pretty much anything from Apple really reflects this too. Take a look at http://store.apple.com and see how everything they make is very round. Especially the Mac Minis, and obviously iPods.
