A lot of videos on the internet are produced using DivX,this is a digital video compression format which shrinks video down to a managable size.DivX files which have a AVI extension are great for watching on your pc but you'll need to convert them to a different format to watch them on your dvd player.

DivX is a way of encoding video, it is one of the Mpeg4 based formats. If you like to download videos from the internet, burn them on CDs and then watch them with your DVD player then you should get one that supports DivX/Mpeg4 because it is a popular internet format.
