a) Assuming you mean table salt (or Sodium Chloride)
- White Crystaline substance
- Polar molecule with molecular formula NaCl
- Molecular weight 58.4 g/mol
- Melting point about 800 deg C
- Soluable in water
- Chemically stable
- Generally low toxicity (but toxic in high doses)

b) Properties vary depending on type of sand
- Mixture of primarily silica and alumina with organic matter
- High melting point (over 1000 deg)
- Generally non-reactive

c) Water
- Clear to light blue liquid at room temperature
- Polar molecule of formula H2O
- Very versatile solvent
- Normal freezing point 273.15 Kelvin (0 deg C)
- Normal boiling point 373.15 Kelvin (100 deg C)

can we make this "odd one out" instead?

sand - because salt and water are both compunds whereas sand is a mixture of different compounds

water - because sand and salt are both solids at room temperature

salt - because sand and water are used in the manufacture of glass and salt isn't

so - each has the property of being the odd one out in the list

:o)

I'm not entirely sure about the first, but it sounds Norse or maybe Egyptian. The second one is one of the Greek Furies, I think. Perhaps not. Maybe on the of the Sisters of Fate?
