i experienced it, im sure of it. i thought i was nearly asleep, when some thing started humping me. now, i say i was nearly asleep bc it was my partial dream state that made me think it was a dog (i was on my back, though). then, while the humping was still going on, i could still hear the tv in the next room. thats when i knew i was no longer asleep. i was paralyzed, though, and couldnt move this humping thing off of me.then the humping stopped, and through the dark across the room i could vaguely make out a figure. it was a little man, just a few feet tall with a hat. i shut my eyes tight, only to open them seconds later to find the figure standing right near me, just above my face. then, i started feeling a caress across my face and my hair. i distinctly remember thinking to myself, "you are awake. you can hear the tv and you can feel this rubbing across your face. you are awake." i chickened out and pulled the sheet over my face to make it stop. sound familiar? please!

an old friend of mine experienced some of what you described. without going into as much detail as you did, suffice it to say that she had perceived several times a little (3-4 foot tall) man, hat also, in the house she grew up in. she sensed intent, and malevolance. so far as i know, that's all. interestingly, her brother had ALSO seen the figure several times, with the same uncomfortable feeling.

there may be a rational explanation, there may not. what you described sounds positively terrifying and i hope you never have to experience it again.

What you've experienced is sleep paralysis. When you're in REM (dream) sleep, your body is paralysed to prevent your hurting yourself, and sometimes the paralysis affects a person a bit earlier/lasts a bit longer than it should. You're not awake, but you're also not asleep; you're dreaming, but your dream incorporates the sounds around you, and it seems very real. I don't doubt it was traumatic for you, but basically, it was only a dream
