Prophet Mohamed (s.a.v.) had 4 wives. First one he married by love, the others he married to help. Three other wives were elder then him, and were widowed and could not feed their children. Thus Mohamed (s.a.v.) helped them. Nowadays ppl say that if Mohamed (s.a.v.) could marry why can't we? Most of muslims do not marry to help women, they think about themselves.

I personally believe that is a good question. To me, a question seeking to gain knowledge or insight without making any negative comment is a good question and should be answered politely.

There are many reason Muslim men are allowed to have up to four wives, among others, are as follows:

1. Law provide by God Himself.

God Himself through the Quran allows Muslims to have up to four wives. However in the Quran, God also remind Muslims only to marry more than one wife if he can be fair to his wives.

2. History.

Before the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. preach the teaching of Islam, some people, not just the Arabs, have more than four wives. When Islam comes, new law was introduce to limit it to 4 wives.

3. Logical consideration.

It is better for a woman to become one of the lawful wives of a man and have all her rights as the lawful wife (including the right for maintenance, inheritence, custody of the child if any) as compare to become a secret mistress with no lawful right as a wife.

4. Other consideration.

Islamic teaching opposes to sex before marriage. So if a Muslim wants to have sex with a woman, then the Islamic law allows the Muslim man to have sex with the woman by allowing him to marry her (even though the muslim man may already have a wife). If the woman become a second wife, she is well protected under the Islamic law in the sense that she is guaranteed to have the rights of a lawful wife. Hence, if the man refuse to give financial support to the second wife, she can sue her husband in Court.

Muslim men are allowed to have upto four wives at one time. During a lifetime the number can be even higher through divorce, death etc. Islam is just a religion to fulfill an arab man's sick twisted fantasies and a tool to oppress women!

Islam restricted the number to 4, and the reasons are multiple but the condition for it is to be fair between them. Males may need physiologically more than one female to meet their desires when females have certain conditions as the period, pregnancy, and lactation, or when a female is infertile and he wants children. In the west extra marital relations are very common, but in Islam is totally prohibited and the only lawful way is to have another wife rather than doing adultery which is a major sin and causes the spread of AIDS and other diseases.

Your statement in false in that you are ignoring the rebirth at the point that a true believer in Jesus Christ is saved from his sins and born again.

You need to remember that God knows the very intents of the heart before you say or do anything. And based on our true intent we are judged as a sinner.

Please examine your motives for you postings on this site. If they are evil, God is making a record of every thing that you think, say and do.

You will answer for all on the day of Judgment. And will spend eternity in Heaven or Hell based on your relationship with Jesus Christ.

Dear sir/Madam

I am glad you asked this question.
It is one of the many many many misconceived ideas about Islam.

Islamic law, is the Holy Quran.
In the Holy Quran are a set of laws that regulate all aspects of life including social matters starting from birth to burial,
As for the number of women a man may marry, well it is not "4"
Because, any number other than one, comes with an impossible condition of "Absolute fairness to all spouses" which is impossible to do, the holy Quran itself says so too.

The intricacies therein are many, and need pages to explain , all I ask you is, DO NOT BE INFLUANCED BY HALF-TRUTHS, THEY HAVE BEEN CIRCULATED FOR ULTERIOR MOTIVES.
i am sure you can find detailed referances, do not be cheated by villans.
