If you're not into therapy, which seems to be the case, try talking it out with someone you trust; not all at once but over a time without forgetting progress made and the victories of new thoughts on old subjects.

Finally when all old thoughts have been replaced by the well rounded considerations in hindsight of an adult and an adult's contemporaries, you'll realize that the demons of old have fallen fast asleep never to again scream or be the cause of screams.

Of course its possible. I think the first step is comming to terms with what happend to you, and not letting it control you. It isn't easy though.

As someone who had a rough childhood, I can tell you first hand that it isn't easy. But you just take everything one day at a time.
