Hello Cris P

I have been visiting Thailand for the last 35 years and for the last 10 my wife and I have lived and worked in Phuket full time. We are involved in the Diving and Adventure Tourism industry and part owners of several companies allowing us to own land in Thailand.

The best up-to-date and accurate resourse for persons planning to relocate to Thailand is found at http://www.thaivisa.com

This web site was created by foreigners to help others researching and planning on comming here. There is also a forum where persons with questions just like yours can be answered by others who were previously just like you and you may even find other expats from your own area back home and establish some welcome local connections before even returning here yourself.

Check it out and hope you will find all the info you are looking for.

shouldn't you have thought about this before building a condo. well if your over 50 and have income from the states in the amount of 65,000 baht a month and no major health problems you can get a retirement visa for 1 year at a time and kept on extending it. Do a search for the Thai Embassy in USA it will give you the instructions. It's really not that hard.

Visas depend on you and what you personally might qualify for.. check with the Thai embassy if there is one nearby - - but even better, when you come in at the airport on your 30 day visa, go to the immigration office on Suan Plu in Bkk.. I have found them to be very helpful and accurate.. The visa might depend on your age etc.. - I too am American and I now have a retirement visa but you have to be over 50.. Are you buying a condo or building? You will have great benefit from learning to speak - - it has opened so many doors for me and increased the quality of my life here in enormous ways.. You can't imagine. Good for you - don't stop learning and using your Thai.. If you need more info, feel free to contact me.. best of luck - it is a great life here.

Typically you get 30-day visa free stay. But you can apply for a year social visit pass from the Thai Embassy in your country, and I was told if you have a business there, you can get it free. Check with the embassy staff.

You don't have to worry about the language matter because local people can communicate with you in English. Or is there anyone who wants to test your proficiency in Thai language?
