I will be there for about 12 hours waiting for a connecting flight. I wont go to a hotel because I know I wont sleep. Are there many shops and restaurants at the airport? Many seating areas?

Plenty of seating, take a good book. The bookshops are there are not that great but it is about the only place where you can buy a copy of Ravens by Christopher Robbins.

There are more shops and restaurants in international terminals at the airport than in domestic terminals. Don't try to go around the whole airport to find something more exciting because there aren't any and it's a waste of time. And don't expect anything from the airport because it's just an airport. You should bring a book or you can get one there. Or bring a MP3 player.

It's old, but not bad. The new Suwannabhumi airport opening around September this year will be much nicer and larger.

Anyway, there are many restaurants and good duty-free shops. The seating areas are not great. It would be much nice if you have a member card of some sort that gives you access to one of the lounges.

Another good way to kill time is to get a Thai or foot massage.

Not this one of the Airport, but the new one that is the newest one, the biggest one and the greatest internation airport on of world, here in Thailand. So, i'm sorry for now, but this one will be in used so soon. You can do EVERYTHING there, at the Thailand Airport.

Sadly no, there is not much you can do in the airport. Not many restaurants or seating area. Probably what you can do is to inquire at the transfer desk if they have a short city tour available to keep yourself occupied. Otherwise, nothing much further advise I can offer.

Nope. It's boring and old. There's Burger King though. That's tasty. :)
