Islam is not only a religion but a civilization. During its peak time is spread all over the known geographic areas

Please be advised that Trade has been always means for people to exchange and thus because of Islamic wealth, people used to trade and ships used to travel accross the seas.

Also, God says"We meant to have Mankind as tripes and nations so they can exchange knowledge" so Muslims like to know about others and others know about them.

Furthermore, Muslims ought to respect others religions so those who are not faithful in God, we ought to enlighten them and those following Torah and Bible used to have God protection on their homes, wealth and worship places and thus Muslims are forbidden to damage as God created Mankind to develop.

What is more is that Muslims ought to fight only who stands against enlightment of people. So if a king or tripe leader allow Muslims to enlighten others so it is forbidden to fight them and thus it spreaded peacfully as you have seen by now and who ever was under Islamic empire did not find treatment except respect.

I believe you are suprise by this fact because of misconception of the Islamic religion. Some non-muslims mistakenly thought that Arabs are Islam and Islam is Arabs. That's why some may be suprise to know that there are Chinese Muslims. Arab, like Chinese, is a race and not a religion. That's why you will see that the Muslims Chinese still eat like ordinary Chinese (using chopstick) and not like the Arabs (using bare hands).

The Chinese in China became Muslims earlier than the Chinese became Christians. China is officially a Communist country. However the Communist government doesn't restrict their people to follow religion and philosophy. Hence, most Chinese people still practice or at least believe in some of the Buddism or Taoism philosophy. Muslim Chinese are also allowed to practice their religion as Islam is considered a "native religion" (ie it has been professed and practiced since long time ago).

Hundreds if not at least a thousand years ago. Back during the early AD years (700 AD, etc), there was a lot of trade and social connection with the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. Naturally "missionaries" from different religions would go to places like China, Eastern Russia, Japan, etc and spread their beliefs. Then, given hundreds of years, the people spread it to their children, and their children, and 10 becomes 100 quickly and keeps going.

Most of the Muslims in China lives in western China, where they share a boundary with Middle East. So as time passes by, Islam spread over to China.

China is a very big place. A part of its borders is close to some of middle eastern countries. If we remember our history lessons well, people in the past can either be nomadic (one who moves from place to place) or just stays wherever they are.

As there are shared borders between China and some middle eastern countries, it can only be expected that some of the nomadic people from middle east got to China. As we all know, most of the people from the middle east are Muslims. So, there!

BTW, most of the local Chinese Muslims also have different facial and physical features as compared to the local Chinese. When you look at them, you'd see that they are obviously bi-racials in ethnicity.

Look, there are things that your Govt. Just Doesn't tell you. You gotta find a few things out for yourself. (Which you are doing! Good on you)

There are things lots of Govts don't tell thier citizens!

Japanese students know nothing about thier WWII atrocities, for example. They deliberately don't teach 'em.

Why they don't teach you about Muslim's in China? Maybe because American's tend to be, with all due respect, quite insular. Maybe you are too busy being taught all about America?

I suggest you take a 12 -24 month sabatical and travel the world.

It'll change you for the better!

Good Luck on your quest and thanks for the tip on the 85 Saab Turbo!

China is home to a large population of adherents of Islam. Sources suggest that there may be as many as 20 million Muslims in China, up to 2 percent of the country's 1.3 billion population. Other sources suggest twice as many, or more.

During the Tang Dynasty, China was highly tolerant of new religions and Chinese contact with foreign envoys flourished. Islam was introduced to China via the silk road by Arabs.
