I have ADD so I drink something with caffeine in it or take some other stimulant like bitter orange capsules. Then I listen to a book on tape or an Old Time Radio program. Preferably something kind of dull. The stimulant slows my mind down so I don't have a million thoughts racing around and the book or radio gives my mind something to focus on. Listening is better than reading because you can listen in the dark. I rarely get through an entire half hour program before I'm out.

stare at this stupid little box that i am now communicating thro until I almost fall asleep right in front of it.

But if your asking what you can do to get to sleep quicker and sleep better...Get 30 mins of good exercise everyday and maybe try a dietary supplement such as Melatonin<<<<<,Works great!
Don't eat or drink much before sleeping either. certain foods/ beverages will keep you awake or wake you back up.

When I can't fall asleep I either: Do something REALLY dull to lull me off, or I watch t.v., watch the most boring movie ever, or count stars in the sky. It really helps me, fall asleep, maybe it will help for you.

Mostly reading or writing. When I write I am actually taking out what's inside of my mind. Then my mind has nothing to work again, it gets tired, and finally time to rest automatically.

you can take a warm bath before going to bed and also drink at least
3 glasses of water and avoid caffeine because it causes cancer for a long tern people don't mind it ..

play yoga or reading.
maybe you should play sport in the evening that can make you sleep well. Or play yoga, it can make you feel relax. If you're not stressed, you will sleep easily.
