I've never actually dealt with this situation so it's kind of scary to me! I guess I'd call the credit card company and tell them who you are and that you know your ex has a credit card in your name and ask them how to go about canceling it since you don't have the password on the account. How did you find out that your ex had a card in your name? Did you get a bill or something? That might help you with the company if you had some proof. Good luck!

Is the card in your ex's name with you as joint? Is the card in your name with your ex as either joint or AU?

Either way, if you are in good speaking terms with your ex, tell the ex that you want him/her to pay off anything that is on the account and then close it. Giving you proof that it is paid and closed.

If your ex doesn't, you should file a police report on him/her and notify your credit bureau and the credit card company.

Also, keep a close eye on your reports in case there are other accounts that you are not aware of - yet.

cancel!

if he is using it against your will you might even have to pull out the identity theft card.

then take him to court for whatever you have to pay off.
