It's highly unlikely that either North Korea or Iran could start the Third World War. Certainly not North Korea. They don't have an alley in the world, can't even feed and maintain their own army and don't have the air force to do anyone any real harm.

Iran might present a different picture if we keep meddling in their affairs because there are enough Muslin nations, should they join forces, to cause a lot of damage.

But to answer your question directly: I would be all in favor of a new military draft (I was drafted) in this country as long as there were no special favor exemptions and both the rich and poor, educated and uneducated were subject to the draft. Only then would our military truly represent our country.

Nah, the United States has the best military in the entire world. Let me explain it with figures...

First of all lets look at the facts, the current U.S. military spending is something around $400 billion dollars. The entire world only spends around an estimated $840 billion dollars on defense, the United States almost makes up half of that. This means that the United States spends more on its military then the next top 20 top spending world powers combined. This includes Russia, China, Japan, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Italy, India, South Korea, North Korea, Israel, and Iran. Also, keep in mind a number of those nations receive both military support and funding from the United States. In addition, the United States makes up about one fifth of the world's economy. The current US military strategy is something called a military hegemony. That means it is the objective of the US armed forces to keep the strongest military in the world so that no other nation can defeat us.

The idea of another nation attacking and invading the United States is almost fantasy. While it is possible it could happen it's very unlikely.

We have troops all over the world that we could use. In addition, we would not be fighting a defensive war, there isnt any way N. Korea or Iran could attack us, they are both regional powers. The only threat to our country would be from missles, terrorism, and world economy.

So, no, we wouldnt need to begin a draft.

I think we should have some sort of conscript service like most countries have - 2 years in the reserves as a grunt and if you want to keep doing then you can pick a new job and go into active service. Do I want a draft HECK NO!!! Most people out there are dirtbags and would get people killed just because they don't want to be there. Take a look at what the military went through right before they dropped the draft and made it all volunteer

The US military is already streched to near it's capacity. There are already soldiers who have done 3 to 4 tours in as many years. Iran is a minor threat to the US, they are however a major threat to Isreal, and they have bucket loads of oil and are very friendly with Russia and China. N.Korea can mobilize an army twice the size of the US in a week. They may not have boots but their unoquivical hatred for S.Korea,Japan,and the US will compensate. They are already testing ICBM's that can reach the continental US. All they need is an ally. The Chineses' indifference to all nations could sway them to N.Korea if the wind blew the right way, as the Chinese don't particularily care for the Japanese either or Americans for that matter. The Chinese could mobilize a military force that would dawrf the Americans. The US does not have the largest military, they have the most nuclear warheads. They have a well trained military but they lack disipline. They have all kinds of toys, but as we have seen a RPG can still take down a gunship. Road side bombs blow the hell out of APC's. The 400 Billion that is spent on military, the majority of that is spent on invasions, logistics,food and the like. As far as being properly outfitted, even the US were short on Flak-Jackets and equipment when they went to Iraq. As far as the US winning wars lets see:
WW1= Win, with help from Allies.
WW2= Win, with help from Allies and A-Bomb
Korea= Stalemate, not so many Allies
Vietnam= Loss, no Allies
Granada= Win, enemy had sticks and rocks
Bay of Pigs= Win, enemy had sticks and rocks
Afganistan=Win, with help from Allies
Iraq=Chaos, not so many Allies
Do we see a pattern here. No disrespect to the soldiers who fought in these wars, police actions and conflicts you are all men with honor(save the few who disgrace your country) and I salute you. But it's not a question of should. It's when. Should they. No. But they shouldn't be trying to push there beliefs on the rest of the world either. But they will in the name of Freedom but the small print says oil.

Obviously, you have not experienced drafting before.
For your information, most young men in the world would rather not have to experience drafting, and those of us that have are brought into military service against our will.
Not everybody is born for a life of suppresion and servitude, the exact kind of treatment you get when you are drafted as a recruit. And even when you have progressed through the ranks, do know that the kind of commitment that the army life demands of you sucks big time.
Imagine being away from your family and friends for so long, your girlfriend dumps you for a less eligible guy simply because u cannot spare her anytime.
So my answer to your question is a resounding no!
I believe inciting unrest within these countries or even pitting rogue nations against one another is the way to go.

No, people should have a choice now, back in WW2 people had no choice, now they should. We could maybe start drafting again, but give people a choice.

Besides, we should make up our minds now, they probably will start another World War, and if they do, Im joining the military. (well if I am old enough by then) 12 goin on 13 now, -.-.

But i think that a World War is already beginning in Iraq, although if a war starts in N.Korea, it WILL cause a WW.

Do you think they could avoid it if Korea and Iran did enough bad things to start a World War?

From a citizen's point of view, the government should NEVER start drafting. The draft is literally a form of slavery, and the fact that we don't have compulsory military service in this country is one of the few areas in which we're socially ahead of most of Europe.

Oh, definitely. World War 3 would really make us a shining star in what remains of our international reputation. Chances are good that if we even tried it, the UN would kick us out, declare our government defunct, and force us to become a socialist state. That or we'd kick *** 3 for 3 and always be remembered as 'the saviors who took down that guy who looks like a transformer'.

It won't be North Korea or Iran, It will be the US.

The US has already been talking about invasion again, and launched it's propaganda machine.

There is absolutely no reason to invade either country apart from the fact that your government doesn't like their government. Sounds like the schoolground bully is at it again
