One of our distant ancestors used their appendix to aid in the digestion of plant matter. Sure we don't need it anymore, but no one ever said evolution was smart or neat, merely effective.

Unless our environment changes radically so that for future generations the abscence of an appendix would prove an advantage (ie increase our chances of living long enough to have offspring), then there is no reason to suppose the damn thing is going anywhere anytime soon.

in the olden days, people needed appendixes to help digest tough food, but in the days of overly processed who knows what, there's really no need for it.

possibly in old evolutionary stages we were supposed to eat grass...cows use their appendix to aid in digestion of grass

i think it has a purpose being inside our body, it strain tiny waste that we have eaten. when my brother have appendectomy when he was small, he was so sick and almost die, the doctor remove it, containing tiny seeds and among other tiny waste in a small little sac.

We don't know what it for now. maybe it's evolution. I think it should be useful, but we don't' know it.
