I have been hearing them all night up and down my street. They are illegal here in the LA Valley (for fire safety reasons) but that doesn't stop people from getting them somewhere else and setting them off.

I know they are illegal but listening to them reminds me of mychildhood in Texas, reminds me of a very traditional way to celebrate the 4Th. of July.

We have legal fireworks displays sactioned and watched over by the city, controlled and set off by the local fire departments.

Why can't our local governments set up a public place somewhere in some open park where normal citizens can come (watched over by the fire department) set off their own fireworks? Where this celebration can still be legally handed down from one generation to another?

I grew up in Gardena, CA and as a kid we always had fireworks. The whole neighborhood had fireworks. You got bragging rights if you had the "biggest box" of fireworks on the block, but you are right, some bozo ruined it for the rest of us.

I now live in Riverside, and the city puts on a spectacular display of fireworks on Mount Rubidoux every year. Most of us that have gone to the event for years find that it is not just the fireworks that are exciting, we make bets to see if the hill catches fire.

Even though the Mount Rubidoux extravaganza is great, I do miss the "sparklers", the "pin wheels" and the "snakes". They were my favorite.

I think LA might consider your idea. Propose it to you city council. Good luck.

Personal firework does not only pose danger to the users but also bypassers as well. I can understand why government can legalize the product and setting up a public place to use it as you've suggested it. But it's riskly business.

You've suggested that the government can have a public place for citizens to come and do firework under strict supervision. I can see how that happen, but if the government is to allow citizens to have legal access to firework in open market, then chances are, people will start using it on their account without the government's supervision. And that, needless to say, poses problems to society. It's a risky choice that government isn't wiling to take.

Kinda like alcohol, it's restricted to people over 21 years of age, but we still see underaged teens get accessed to liquors without being penalized. So my point is, people will always try to disrupt the social order; the government is only trying to restrict this offense to the best they could.

Better yet find a company or office complex with a large parking lot, that is closed on the 4th.

The problem is that bottle rockets could go anywhere. How do you stop someone from making a custom firework that shoots a few thousand feet away. They could hide it in a normal firework.

Texas is having to crack down on fireworks. Some counties have a complete ban on all, but professional shows.

Blame it on Global Warming.

The Indian Reservations can sell something that they choose...as long as there is not too lots of a stink approximately specific fireworks from the interior of sight section (like the m-80s) the biggest clarification why specific fireworks and crackers are unlawful is the wear and tear that they might do and or existence and assets which has been destroyed because of the stuff....human beings dropping arms and issues like that..

Some people think it's the government's job to be our mother and prevent us from being stupid and burning ourselves. Yes, fireworks can be dangerous, but I think the average citizen is quite capable of handling him or herself around them.

They're illegal in my state too, but a bunch of people go down to the South Carolina border to buy some. Police tend to turn the other way on holidays like the 4th and New Years.

Still, as a libertarian, I find it ridiculous that adults aren't to be trusted with them.

You think that's bad, shooot, my city, Fremont CA not only banned them but didn't even have a sanctioned display this year, booo. But with the Terminator elected I'm sure we're up for some real fireworks if humans don't do what's compulsory and re-elect em.

You might need to check local ordinances. They are illegal in my town as well but there is a special free time on the fourth were people are allowed to shoot fire works to their hearts content. The law against them was not in effect from 6 PM to 11 PM tonight.

I am sure other cities are the same, it is kind of silly to deny people fire works on the fourth.
