They are two different words:

Selected means chosen.

Select means high-quality, or, more often, snobby and we want you to *think* it's high-quality.

So, in your example, it is probably used like this:

"Our regular books have the complete original text. In our select editions, we have included, in addition, up to 100 pages of critical reviews."

'select' is not only a verb, but also an adjective with the meaning: 'prestigious, egregious, eminent'.

'select' can be seen functioning as an adjective in:

'he moved only in select company'

'o drink wine only from select vineyards'.

you need to get yourself a good dictionary.
